A small bowl of active coal helps with this problem. You can buy active coal in animal shops with aquariums, they use it as filter material and it's not expensive. "No frost" refrigerators help as well.

Sometimes. It really depends on what it is. Spaghetti doesn't smell as bad as say hamburger.
