Why are bar stools always so uncomfortable to sit on, is this a fashion statement? Does it serve any practical purpose?

I never sit in the bar area at a restaurant cause the seats are so uncomfortable.

I'm the opposite since COVID happened. I found out quickly that you don't get the same service you used to when going for the table option at a restaurant. The bar tender gives you immediate response as they don't leave their station and it's within their reach. plus it's quicker to get a seat and served if you eat food there. It works out better for all, they get their deserved tip and you get waited on a lot faster and better.

I like them. They force you to stay upright.
we have some at the house in the kitchen. They’re quite the statement pieces. But I can definitely imagine the discomfort for some.

I like them, the only ways I can imagine where they would be uncomfortable are if it’s too dirty or the pole holding the seat is going up your butt, and only weirdos would say that’s not a con, like actual freaks.
