+1 yI don’t eat pizza.
I am not a fan of cheese. Now if that cheese is shredded thin enough, I can eat a moderate amount. But something like nachos, puke.
I can also eat that powered cheese that goes with that cheap kraft macaroni and cheese.
But a cheese burger, puke.
My hamburgers are meat and bread only. I could probably get used to mustard and l have eaten sweet pickles on them but for me, all those condiments take away from the experience of eating a big, fat, juicy patty.
Being a picky eater like l am is unhealthy because there are only a few vegetables that I do eat.
It is also bad in social situations where food is involved.15 Reply
Asker+1 yMy brother is the same with the cheese, he’ll only eating if it’s very finely shredded.

Years ago my mother fixed me macaroni and cheese and hotdogs. I knew she had bought those hotdogs that had cheese injected into them.
I asked her if those she had fixed for me were the ones with cheese in them. When she said yes, I refused to eat them.
She was pissed. She pointed out how l had no issues eating that mac n cheese, but wouldn’t eat that hotdog.
Asker+1 ySome people will never understand. Do you have autism or OCD by any chance?

Mild OCD.
Asker+1 yAh yeah, same here.

Nothing wrong in avoiding foods that are no good to you and give you problems
I usually look at the nutritional value of each product at the back of the packet and avoid anything sweet and of course invite some criticism too lol00 Reply
+1 yPlease don't feel bad about being a really picky eater because I am the same way. I am really a picky eater myself and I can't eat a lot of food I use to enjoy eating when I was much younger in my early 20's. Our body changes when we get older and we just can't eat everything we use to be able to eat. Just stand your ground and just ignore what these people you don't know or even you do know them like your girl friend. Just tell her to accept you the way you are as a picky eater. If she doesn't accept you the way you are then leave her and find a woman friend who will accept you for you. Good luck.

+1 ySounds like you could get help from a doctor if you wanted some help with this problem. Not being able to try new foods when you really want to is stressful.

Asker+1 yI don’t think it’s a medical issue. It’s more like the taste just doesn’t appeal to me so forcing myself to eat it makes me feel sick. I can try new foods and like them but they tend to be pretty plain foods.

+1 yI usually assume picky eaters are like me, adults on the spectrum that take comfort in what we know is familiar and tastes good. We’re more sensitive than the average neurotypical person, with a higher number of neurotransmitters than average. Or something like that, I forget what they’re called.

Asker+1 yI haven’t been diagnosed with anything but I have a suspicion that I might be. My brother is autistic so it wouldn’t be a surprise.
2.3K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I'm a picky eater, that's why I cook for myself. I guess it's partially psychosomatic because when I didn't cook a meal I have eaten and there is something not 100% right I will get stomach pain and I will start to feel ill. When I cook alone I know it was cooked right with fresh ingredients and even if a meal isn't 100% good I don't get any sensations from my stomach.
10 Replyim a picky eater but i always tend to find something, a lot of times i eat the same thing for a week or so, but i always try things i dont like sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't. just keep experimenting with food, trying different things even if you dont like it after you try it

+1 yIt’s fine to be picky if you at least TRY things. If you don’t like it then you don’t like it. Nobody can force you to like different foods.
I just can’t stand when grown ass adults refuse to even try a single bite of something 💀 Like damn bro not even a nibble?
At least you WANT to try new foods.

My body reacts with strong residence towards certain types of foods. Like on a throwing up level.
And if it means having no friends because of it or getting a negative opinion for it then so be it. I've grown to be a lone wolf anyway.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI'm a picky eater and a foodie at the same time.
I love all kinds of foods from across all kinds of cultures.
But I hate when things are mixed with sweet. For example, general tso chicken. It's chicken mixed with sweet stuff.
It makes me want to vomit when breads and meats are mixed with sweet.
Everyone gets mad at me for it.00 Reply

Asker+1 yEh people develop different likes and dislikes when it comes to food, I don’t think liking plain flavoured food means that my parents failed me. It’s not in my head either, because I will try those foods. I just never end up liking them and forcing myself to eat them just makes me feel sick.
+1 yI like picky eaters.
Because maybe they won't want to eat what's on their plate, which means more food for me.

Asker+1 yWhy should people be forced to eat food they don’t like?
Opinion Owner+1 yWho said that. Don't eat. Starve if you like. Nobody cares.
Asker+1 yOr, I could just eat the foods I like? I genuinely never understand the aggression towards picky eaters. I’d love to understand why it bothers people so much when it has no impact on them whatsoever.
Opinion Owner+1 yYou're creating this in your head I could care less what you or anyone else does or doesn't eat. Did you create this question just to pick a fight.🤣 I'm simply saying if you were to find yourself in a situation where you weren't able to be picky you'd find out what you're truly willing to eat. That's all🤣
Asker+1 yNo, I created this question because I genuinely want to understand why people have an issue with what I do and don’t like to eat. Because I’m genuinely fed up of being mocked for it. It’s not about ‘finding out what I’m trying willing to eat’ because I will try a bunch of different foods, I just never like them and I cannot stand to eat them because it makes me feel physically sick if I don’t like the taste.
Opinion Owner+1 yWell who cares why they do. The reason can be as varied as the people. In others 2 different people can have 2 different reasons. But it could also be situational. Maybe they offer you something and you turn it down, maybe they offer you a substitute and you turn it down. It's pretty easy to understand why someone might get offended at that. A different tact to take might be to just say "thank you but I'm not hungry" from the beginning. That way they don't feel rejected.
Asker+1 yIt’s not so much about turning food down. I’m the type of person that’ll take the food anyway because I don’t want to offended the person 😅 but in my experiences it’s more like when I go out to eat with people and they see that I get something more plain like chicken and fries and they start talking about how I eat like a child 🥲
