Who else feels like a restaurant loses points by making you feel rushed?

It was still fairly early, most of the tables were still empty, and this restaurant brought the check unprompted right when we started dessert. That rubbed me the wrong way...

You're just one of the fat pigs at the trough at this point. Restaurants are no longer about the "experience" and it's more about eating the damn food and getting the fuck out of there. They make you food, you pay to eat it because you're too lazy to cook and then do more dishes.

You gotta put yourself in their mindset. They don't care how they rub you, because if you do give a tip... they're not going to see it. The incentive to give great service died when we started using cards to pay. They're working the equivalent of a McDonald's job. They can't afford rent by themselves. Welcome to communism. That's what it creates... people that do the bare minimum, complain about it, and if they do work hard they won't get anything for doing it more than the guy that just spit in your food.

Also, realize that they deal with all sorts of different people. They don't know what the fuck you want. Some people want to be left alone and get annoyed when some jerk comes to the table and asks if you need anything (That's me), and others get annoyed if they don't get that treatment (my mother-in-law). You're one of many and they have no idea in how you want to be rubbed. ... and again, why would they really give a fuck if there is no incentive to give a fuck?

Just imagine it, working that shitty job... holy hell, I'd contemplate suicide.

Bringing the check is not necessarily a hint for you to hurry up and leave. Did you already indicate that you were not having having beyond dessert? Usually, the server waits until they are sure you're not ordering anything else, and then delivers the check, often with a smile and a "when you get a chance, no rush."

My SO is a former server, and she tells me that the sooner she can deliver a check, the easier it is for her to wait on her other tables... not a hint to hurry up.

The waitress was more concerned with bringing the check, than with bringing me another glass of water that I asked for. She lost a dollar off the tip for that.

but yeah, it is seen as feeling rushed and that they don't want to serve you anymore because they assume you're done. on the other hand, at least you don't have to wait and keep waiting just to ask for the check because they never come back around and then you feel rude because you have to grab their attention.

Then you should not be out eating in a restaurant, do takeout instead.

They make no money having your entitled ass sitting there not ordering. They are a business like any other, and want people to move along as soon as possible, so the next can order.

People like you are why sit-in business is dying. You think your shitty few bucks entitles you to sit in that spot for hours, like it's your hotel reserved room.

Understand the puffery, that yes businesses want you to have a good experience. But neither you or your money are any more special than anyone else's. Read the room, they didn't kick you out like a normal person would have, they moved the process along so you would get the hint.

Yes, there was a steak house that I used to go to. It was always crowded and there was always a line out the door. After you got done eating the waitress would stand next to the table and try and move you along. The food was always good but getting rushed out the door made it hard to give it 5 stars.

I also don’t like people, vacuuming and cleaning up an hour early like they want to get it over with early so they can go home. It bothers me.

Yeah it's so different than a lot of other countries where they expect you to take your time and enjoy your meal.
