At a party, a delicious dish will disappear quickly. But at the end, often there is a piece left, that no one will take. Someone may cut it in half or take a portion of the last bit. Someone else cuts that half in half. But no one takes the last little bit cleanly. A German once told me in Deutschland, there is a name for this, "the piece of politeness".
I am the uncouth villain who will swoop in without remorse and take the last piece. Even a whole last piece. Why do I not feel any guilt? Am I a sociopath?

Nope. I just think it's silly to worry about it. Finish the platter, let it be removed from the table and cleaned up; stop torturing everyone with that last delectable morsel. I'm actually a hero in this scenario. Now you can stop obsessing about the last piece of cheesecake and enjoy the party. You're welcome.

But really, I am a former chef and still cook for things like gatherings, potluck, &c. I don't expect anyone to save the last piece for me, the chef/benefactor. Nor do I if I bought the item. In fact, I would rather not eat what I brought to the table; I created it for everyone else and am happiest when it is consumed completely with no leftovers.
Eating what is offered honors the host.
I'll go a step further. Even if you did buy it and you're sharing I think it's just polite to offer the last piece to the person you're sharing it with first.
True.
If I am a guest…that would be the polite thing to do.
At home…what’s the reason to leave the last piece?
If you’re at home then you probably bought it right?
Hubby bought or my family member bought….(have family gatherings…sent home left overs)
I or someone should eat up…otherwise it will go bad.
Well yeah let’s not let things go to waste 💯
😊❤️
It's better to just eat it, but I'd make sure nobody else wants it beforehand.

I get in trouble all the time for the opposite. leaving one or two of something.
my advice is if you got it, eat it. it's yours unless someone else claimed it, or you want to save it for them.
I like that…if it is said I saved this for you.
Why do you get in trouble?
@midnightmoon05 because I'm a bad boy?
Sometimes that’s when you need a little spanky. 😘
disagree. if i dont eat it it usually gets thrown away.
lol.
get the scissors and cut a piece off of you really feel like an ogre eating it all.
Or voice out “does anyone want the last piece?”
I learned at a very young age not to take the last piece, no matter what it is.
I still follow that rule.
Unless it’s offered to you, don’t eat someone else’s food. It’s a pretty good standard to handle most interactions regarding food to share
I agree to disagree & I also disagree to agree.
If it’s the last piece split it in half.
How else do you show appreciation for free food?
Disagree. If it’s fair game, it’s fair game. Don’t share with others, and then whine when others eat it. That’s a bitch move.
I never take the last piece even if I was the one who bought it
Yes, that’s what I’ve been taught.
Generally as a rule.
Disagree, but I'd still ask first.
I eat the whole thing. Am a piggy boy 🐷😋
