Do you avoid wasting food?

Our grape and strawberry mixture had been in the fridge for 4 days and I had to throw half of the them out because they were going bad and my mom got this food shell that looks like a soma cell and she said it tasted outdated when she tried it. And we had to make olive pasta today because the olives were on the verge of going bad and yesterday I threw out an outdated apple that had gone bad. Before the pandemic, less than 5% of our food got thrown out cause it was never purchased near its expiration date but with food shortages and overly long shelf stockings, a lot of our fruit goes bad if it’s not eaten within a week. I also had a banana today that was very ripe. And I ate a slice of cheese yesterday because I was told it only lasts a few days in the fridge. And I think I have to throw out the walnuts and canned fish cause they are both past their expiration date.
