It is also called the Chinese Date. You get two different fruit on the same tree. If you pick it when it first starts to ripen, it tastes like a sweet, crisp apple. If you let it dry (on or off the tree), it takes on the texture and sweetness of a chewy date. If you eat it before it starts to ripen, it tastes like cardboard.

I like Lychee fruit from exotic ones. I use mango or pineapple as ingredient but I prefer European fruits, which are usually more aromatic due slower growth of plants in tempered climate
