Eggs.
Yeah, that picture cracks me up. I was watching this 1977 concert on Youtube. Lynyrd Skynyrd performing Free Bird live in San Fransisco. The stadium is packed, probably 50,000-60,000 people. The footage is really clear. They have lots of shots of the crowd and EVERYONE is super slender and fit. Not a chubby person in the house. This is back when people just ate whatever they wanted. If they wanted pizza for dinner they just had it. Ice cream? They just had it without tons of guilt and worry.
Kids basically spent all day playing. There were like 3 TV channels, no screens, no video game systems. People spent their lives being active.
There didn't have gluten free, endless peanut allergies, fat free, low carb, they didn't watch their carbs, KFC was Kentucky Fried Chicken because frying food wasn't considered some horrible thing. Your mom would make fried chicken for dinner quite often.
Then the 80's hit. Video games, 1,000 TV channels and kids started staying in doors and laying around a lot. Diet crazes hit, fat free diets. Fat was "bad". Eggs and bacon became boogey man foods. The government published the dietary chart (food pyramid) which said you should eat 6-11 servings of breads/pastas a day. Foods got more processed, cancer rates started skyrocketing, chemicals are pumped into foods. Now kids stay in all day long unless they are on a school soccer team or something.
Now half of the population is fat. Even fit people start getting fat at age 35 or 40. Kids start going into puberty at like 11, peanut allergies skyrocket. Society starts the body positivity movement. Being fat is sexy, normal. Don't strive to be healthy and fit, just be you. You look great and healthy at 200 pounds (woman) or 240 (man).
Man, that 1970's picture is an eye opener. I've seen Jaws and all the people on the beaches were as fit as can be. Being overweight was much more rare.
Local produce, which became scarce after the Food Safety Act (how could anyone vote against a bill with that title? Sort of like the Patriot Act that brought us the surveillance state) imposed steep costs on all farmers, including small farmers, for tagging and tracking equipment. The justification was to be able to identify the origin of e-coli and other contamination, which usually came from imported foods or industrial-scale operations. In any case a lot of small local farmers dropped different crops from their product lines. Of course, the real reason for the Food Safety Act was to favor large corporate operations by imposing costs that required scale—typical neoliberalism—thus concentrating wealth into the hands of our elites. Clear them out!
Salt - your body needs a little bit of salt each day. If you leave salt out of your diet and you have lab work done, your sodium levels will be low, and you don't want that either.
In fact, when they give you IVs of liquid at the hospital, it's really salt water - sodium.
Feel free to correct me if you disagree.
Carbs in general. They aren’t unhealthy, they’re necessary as part of a balanced diet

animal fats for cooking. they are still described as "unhealthy" to this day, even tho plant based fats are proven to be worse. just avoid pig lard cause pig stuff isn't good for you overall but like poultry lard or butter are way better for cooking than sunflower, canola or soy oil.
yeah tastes way better plus you get less cancerous shit, cause animal fat has a lot higher smoke point than plant based fat.
@genericname85 I agree with you about the slow suicide thing 😂, and that food tastes way better when cooked with butter or pig's lard.
@Drewtate Move over to cooking with butter or lard full-time, it won't be a mistake. And don't combine high-fat and high-protein foods with high-carb foods. They should be separate meals.
I remember when butter was bad. Also eggs. Now it turns out that butter has good fats and margarine had saturated fats which are bad. Scientists said eggs were bad because the contained cholesterol now it turns out that consuming cholesterol does not raise your cholesterol levels.
Eggs. High protein, easy to make in a variety of ways, use as leavening agent in cakes, and typical people can eat two a day with no change in cholesterol (which - btw- is a necessary constituent of the body for nerve health and maintaining other misc tissue).
@Massageman
I don't care for food very much because of a health issue.
But what I have been able to eat is Subway's the egg sandwich. They put 4 cooked eggs on it. Each egg is individual. It's not egg salad. I have them put a whole sliced avacado and a sprinkle of black olives and mayonnaise. That's it and it's so good and I have energy now from eating one everyday for about six weeks. I do switch to turkey and avacado once in a while.
I'll eat regardless...
just not in excess
excess is what will get you in trouble, lol
Yeah but those people from 1970 have skin cancer now.
Pretty much everything the USDA called unhealthy. Eggs in particular.
carbs bread processed pasta.
Butter.
When I was a child, we were told - with absolute certainty - that butter is not good for the heart and we should eat margarine. Decades later, we were told - with absolute certainty - that margarine is not good for the heart and we should eat butter! And some people wonder why I don't trust "scientists!"
Yup. Much better than soybean oil or hydrogenated fats, especially- well- soybean fats!
@OlderAndWiser While true, it's still good to spread it lightly.
You’re telling me ribeyes are healthy lol?
LMAO.
have you ever heard of Henry the VIII?
do you know about the agricultural innovations of the mid 1900s known as the green revolution?
the reason why americans are so fat is because of the huge influx of food and wealth.
The reason they are so fat is because they eat far too much of all the wrong foods. The average American has the highest carbon footprint in the world not because of the car they drive or the air conditioning in their homes but because they consume double, triple, quadruple the amount of food than the rest of the world.
Do you think the average eastern European women are any hotter than the average American women? No, they just aren't fat.
do you know how weight gain works?
" but because they consume double, triple, quadruple the amount of food than the rest of the world."
"The reason they are so fat is because they eat far too much of all the wrong foods"
contradicted yourself, per usual.
Sugar and salt.
