Do you like Foie Gras?

I bought it because I can’t read Chinese characters very well and I wanted to buy duck liver. Ended up buying a lot of Foie Gras, Now I feel a bit guilty to figure out how they are made…

I’ve never had Foie Gras, but I looked it up and it looks like it translates to “Fatty Liver”.


I suppose you DID still get liver, but the Foie Gras version.


I like to have liver occasionally. Organ meats are also full of vitamins and minerals.


A lot of purines too though, so it would be good to mind your uric acid levels by not eating too much to often and drink plenty of water (and pair your food with more vegetables).


I have a friend of mine, younger than me, who has gotten gout and that’s no fun.

I accidentally bought Too Much of it. I thought I was buying just a regular liver. Now my freezer is full with Foie Gras.

Proper, seasonal Foie Gras is delicious. The mass produced garbage from forced feeding doesn't have the same nutritional content or flavour.

It's almost impossible to get these days thanks to the bleeding hearts who've only seen the mass produced crap.

Yes. The French are crazy for this stuff, that's why it's practically impossible to buy duck or goose liver in supermarkets, but in entire birds is liver mostly inside. Foie gras is called "Strasbourg pate" in my country and lot of people make duck/goose liver pate after Christmas from meat remains after three days food orgy.

Geese will naturally gorge themselves before migration. Fattening the liver is part of the preparation for long flights. But I don't agree with force feeding.

I've had it and it's nice but the taste doesn't justify the price, it's just like a really good butter.

Yes I do.
We just put one can in the refrigerator and was going to enjoy it over the weekend. But we didn’t get to it. Will have to wait till next time when my sister visits in February. its more fun when my French brother in law and sister come visit and enjoy some fancy foods together.

I didn’t know how it was made and wanted to buy the simple liver, as it has lots of necessary nutrients. But I ended up buying a lot of it and then when looked up, got very upset about the way it’s made.

I'm with you @msc545. I always thought it was overpriced for what it is, but once I saw how it was made I put it down. I hear there is "humane" fois gras now, where the geese just waddle around like a fat guy at a buffet and eat high calorie food. The texture is of course a little different. Haven't tried it (haha and now I couldn't even if I wanted to) and not sure how the price compares.

It’s good when you get someone who knows how to cook it, the best Foie Gras are from cow, goat, and sheep.

Chinese foie gras? Where do you live? I’ve never seen it. Most foie gras in the world is produced in France.
And foie gras IS duck liver from forced fed ducks. What were you looking for?
