I had dinner in the sandwich shop next door to where I work. I was a little startled to see it was sixteen bucks. Is that the going rate where you live?

+1 yThat burger better be made with Angus beef and be huge. The deli near me has a burger deal. You get a burger, Macaroni or potato salad, fries or onion rings, a whole pickle and a large soda for $9.99

Where I live we'd very commonly have to pay $20 for just the burger on its own. With fries and a drink, you're looking at over $30.
Beers are around 12-15 bucks, cocktails are more like 20-30 bucks.

At the airport, it was $14 just for a burger and here at home, that same place charges $12 just for the burger
525 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. America has really dumb food prices so that's to be expected. I know from going there recently.
Here there is a takeaway shop right next to me, you can get a burger chips and a can of pop for £4 = $5 and I can say it's nice. Compared to America, Uk food is so cheap it's funny. Cheap Rubbish Jack's Frozen Pizza is the same price as our good frozen pizza here like Chicago town, meanwhile if you wanted something like jack's here a pizza that is just bearable to eat it's cheaper by £2 basically.
Nvm drink prices and they have very weird not round numbers... everything there be hey you get 473Ml instead of just 500Ml because they want 27ml less for some reason.
But one thing that is for sure cheaper is cigs and by a very big difference. Here we have tons of tax on Tabaco. So a pack of cigs there is $4 over here that would be $14.
Something america probably needs to learn Tax cigs more and make food cheaper. Since it's a bit odd that essentials are at higher prices but something that is not like cigs is cheap.00 Reply
+1 yThat sounds about right. For me to say like MacDonald cheaper for me to eat it's around 15 I do get a coffee with it tho. Quality also matters. If it was really good than it's worth it and go back if it sucked no way. That's how I look at it lol. My weird process in my mind

+1 yquestion is what burger? I had a $30 Burger with bacon the other day... no fries, no drink. Also $23 one.
I call it "the mini sizing" of America. It's about time we make things expensive so we reduce our caloric intake.
Remember back to when all this was "cheap", large... huge drinks... and the drinks probably weren't corn syrup? Those days are gone forever...
And it's going a lot higher...
So give up that junk food, cut the burger in half if you have to... that makes it only $8 for cow flesh and bread not too bad. Get it loaded with veggies... probably free or cheap.
Or order chinese, 3 meals for $20 is about $7.
My general cost of food now is about $5 minimum per meal when I make it myself, high quality. Cheaper if exclude meat and go with beans.
00 Reply 582 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Yes, to me, this is too much for what you bought.
What we started doing a long time ago is instead of getting a very expensive drink from the machine, we would just get water to drink.
The drinks cost as much as the burger it seems.11 Reply- 1.2K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic.
+1 yI have no idea what the rate is here, these days but, I wouldn't pay more than $4.00.
I'm kinda pissed with Domino's because, when I order za from them, instead of only paying about $10.00 for a 2-topping medium za, as advertised, by the time I'm done paying for it, it's more than twice that!! I have to pay a few bucks for delivery, a couple more for taxes and I give the driver at least a $2.00 tip. (They're only about a mile from here, as the crow flies but, at least 2 miles to drive.)
In the meantime, if I go to Vincent's, I can pay the same amount for their large and get almost 3 times as much za!! And it's WAY better than Domino's!! But, they're at least 11 miles from here. As I don't drive, it'd take me at least 80 or 90 minutes on buses to get there. If the bus ride was a straight shot and only one bus (instead of 2 to 4 buses), it'd be about 25 or 40 to get there. (They'd still have to make stops.)01 Reply- +1 y

The two places I eat burgers most often are BJs, which has a burger, fries and salad for $11 on Wednesday. I'm not sure what the normal price is. They have $5 craft beers on Wednesday also.
And Chili's where I get the $11 combo that comes with burger, two sides and a drink. You can add a margarita to the combo for I think 3.50.
00 ReplyEverything is relative. Where I live a sit down restaurant burger meal is $15 and up. But in a big city it can easily be $20s and up. The burger would tend to be high quality, huge & juicy tho. If a shop is selling a skimpy/pathetic burger they shouldn't be charging $8. Obviously you can make your own burgers at home for way less. People are paying for convenience.

+1 yYes. Its insane to see how expensive stuff has become. Bread used to be 99 cents. Now 1,99. A regular mcdonalds (little-) hamburger used to be 99 cents, now 1,95 euro's. A regular hamburger out of the wall was 2,99, now I see 4,50 or 4,99 euro's

+1 yNot really. Average price for a burger is around 16-18 last time I ate out. So I would have expected it to come out to around 25$ which honestly isn't too bad. Bigger issue is the fact around 75% of Americans do not even receive a livable wage.
00 Reply3.2K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. For a fast food burger, yes, it is a rip off. If it was quality food made in a quality restaurant, it would be decent.
