I think you should marinate it overnight for best results.
but personally, I don’t care to look up the recipes and prep food the night before lol. I usually read a recipe and see it says to marinate a while at the last minute. So I go “fuck it” and just marinate it for an hour tops

I always found diminishing returns after a couple of hours. Overnight is best but I only ever found it slightly better. So usually I settle for a couple of hours or so, and overnight only if I can plan it conveniently in advance.

Marinating chicken is a waste of time to tenderize it and keep it juicy during the cooking process I brine it in a salt and sugar brine for a couple of hours before it goes on the grill or if making fried chicken I brine it in salted buttermilk.

So the funny thing about this is it actually depends on the dish you're making because if you marinate it too long it will overpower the rest of the dish it's hard to give an exact time on this because I don't know what you're cooking

Thats a personal preference thing, it would depend on how intense of a given flavor you want, as well as what ingredients you used, as some are more potent than others.

I don't feel marinade works. If I want juicy chicken I bake it in Italian dressing. I now live in Texas though so most the time I smoke the chicken or cover it in homemade BBQ sauce.
