What's your countries national dish?

I am interested to know so I can potentially try and cook it. For instance I have recently looked at Albania's national dish the Tave Kosi and I want to cook it.

Okay if your from USA your the one special exception out of the other 195 countries. If that's the case then give me a dish that your ancestors were originally from.

Our national dish is cawl. It's a simple lamb and veg soup. Recipes vary slightly from home to home but it's basically chunks of lamb potatoes parsnips carrot swede leek and onion in various in a broth, many families serve it with a crumbly cheese sprinkled on top. Like most soups the quality depends on a good base stock.

In the north of the country beef is often substituted for the lamb and its known as lobscouse/lobsgows but it's effectively the same thing. Similar dishes are traditional in countries around the North Sea, such as Norway (lapskaus), Sweden (lapskojs), Denmark (skipperlabskovs).

i moved away when i was really young, but i have a few that you can try:

kimchi (pretty popular. not really a dish, more of a side, you may have had it before)

bibimbap

tteokbokki (personally my fav)

So it makes sense that there is no single national dish, or 'traditional American food' but several state foods celebrating the diversity of the 50 states. American food culture is as rich and exciting as the country itself. Take California with its official state fruit; the humble avocado.

There is no one dish because of the size of the US. There are lots of regional ones.

We have so much outside influence on cuisine. Immediately, the thing that comes to mind, is Thanksgiving (turkey, mashed potatoes and all that stuff).

Other things that pop in my head that are things you associate with the US would be hot dogs, hamburgers, Mac n cheese, bbq (like ribs), chili (type of soup).

So, my ancestors are predominately Swedish and Swedish meatballs are delish.
