No, I never used one in my entire life, and never felt the need to use one.

There are people who have cooked for 50+ years without a thermometer and never caused anyone to become sick due to undercoooked food. It isn't a need for everyone.

Those are percentages not degrees. The temperature for cooking meat is 165° for chicken and 145° for beef (or 160° for chopped beef).
