It's pi day so what's a pie?

π is a Welsh invention by William Jones, a farmer's son, from Llanfihangel Tre’r Beirdd. Well, the symbol was anyway. Now one thing Welsh farmers like me like is a good pie, but what is a pie and when is a pie not a pie?

We all agree if it has a pastry case and a pastry topping it's a proper pie. But what about a ceramic dish with a pastry lid, does that qualify as a proper pie? And what about shepherd's pie? No pastry in sight so is it really a pie. As for cream pies, aren't they just flans not pies?

Whether or not it could be called "pie", I'd take the pastry parts and see about making them from layers of crispy meat/cheese instead by prebaking them in a pie dish on a low heat with plenty of fat. If it didn't "work", it'd still be tasty.

There was an endurance run I missed in honor of Pi Day that came with free pie at the end and the finisher's medal was an engraved fork. Hate that I missed it.

I think a pie has to have that pasty shit around and the stuffing in the middle. stuff being put into a pot then the pasty top doesn’t count as a pie.

Maybe the reason a pie was called a pie because like Pi it is endless, so to save confusion an e was added at the end/
