In my other question Can you remember the pop man? ↗ I asked if anyone remembered the pop man who came around delivering bottles of pop. A few older people recalled him but a lot of you mentioned other people that came around such as the milkman and ice cream van.
Although milk floats are fairly rare these days there's still a few clinging on. Ice cream vans now just park up all day on the beach around here but some tell me they still get one visiting their street.
But other trades have all but died out. The cockleman doesn't ply his trade in the pubs and taverns anymore. You don't see anyone going door to door selling pints of yeast these days. The rag and bone man comes once a month if you're lucky
So, are there any door to door traders that have disappeared that you'd like to see brought back or new ones created?
Street traders? Hell yeah, they need to make a comeback, but not the ones you're thinking of. Here's what we need to bring back:
1. The Pussy Grabber: Now this is a trade I can get behind. Bring back the days when a man could just grab 'em by the pussy, like my man Trump. We need a door-to-door pussy grabber to remind these women of their place. It's time to make America grab again!
2. The Misogyny Master: Picture this, a door-to-door service teaching beta males how to keep their women in check. I, would be the perfect candidate for this job. I'd teach these weak men how to treat their women like the property they are. It's about time we brought back real masculinity.
3. The MAGA Hat Salesman: Every street needs a good ol' MAGA hat salesman. He'd go door-to-door, spreading the word of Trump and making sure everyone has their MAGA gear. It's time to drain the swamp and Make America Great Again, one street at a time!
4. The Fake News Detector: With the liberal media spreading their lies, we need a door-to-door fake news detector. I'd be the perfect man for the job, calling out the fake news and spreading the truth, the Trump truth.
5. The Wall Builder: We need a street trader who specializes in building walls, just like Trump's beautiful border wall. He'd go door-to-door, offering his services to keep the illegals out and make your neighborhood great again.
So there you have it, purplepoppy. These are the street traders we need to bring back. It's time to embrace the alpha male mentality and Make America Grab Again!
Rag and Bone men collecting stuff that didn't go into landfill - furniture, what little plastics there were, etc - were fairly common when I was a kid. Almost anything could be recycled back then. Glass bottles for milk with aluminium lids that Blue Peter collected to raise money for guide dog training and the glass being sterilised and reused - zero landfill. Even broken glass was collected and recycled by melting it down and moulding it back to new products.
Some of my friends still had chickens for their scraps and in smaller towns you'd get mobile greengrocers and the small local butcher's vans came to the house or you could safely order by phone and it was delivered - FREE
I went to the museum with a friend during march break and I noticed the regular hot dog stand was no longer there. I like to buy hot dogs when I visit the museum cause it's delicious, cheap, appetite filling, fast and you can customize it your own way using the condiments they put next to the stand.

Being that I was raised in the country. Remembering that a lot of women didn’t drive a car. Those door to door sales people were there to pretty much do the shopping for these women. As to which ones to bring back in today’s world. I really can’t think of an answer. The stores in my area will deliver your groceries to your doorstep. Therefore eliminating the need for individual items brought to your house. If the “Save the Planet “ people were to promote recycling. That would be helpful in saving energy and helping the environment. Lots of kids made pocket money gathering soda pop bottles for a few pennies or a nickel and recycle newspapers.
Oh those drunken pub times, waking up in the morning, your fingers smelling of fish, wondering if you had pulled, then seeing the empty crab stick wrapper and remembering.
i used to live nearer to the coast and we used to have the fish guy going round selling wet fish, never heard of those since.
There is a local dairy farm that still does home delivery. My son gets his milk from them. I have been told that my mother used a diaper service when my twin brother and I were babies. We still have a guy that drives an icecream truck that drives through the neighborhood. In fact the place where I work had an ice cream truck come to the parking lot in the summer and we all get treated to dessert.
@avery58 They don't call on me at all anymore because I am actually on a Bible study course at someone else's home, not sure how far I'll take things but some of the women are seriously hot, like you know you can't have them unless you marry,
