Have you ever eaten one? This little fellow ended up in a fennel and apple salad.

Our family only eats around 14 types of fish unless you count fish eggs and fake fish meat or shell fish. So we don't know too many edible species of fish. We also come from a Chinese background and live in Canada so we aren't familiar with European breeds of fish unless they are sold in our markets here in Canada.
I’ve had gar balls. We had some Cajun neighbors who made those and hog head cheese and gave some to us when I was growing up. They basically ran the whole fish, bones and all through a grinder, balled it up and breaded it, then deep fried it. Not my favorite, but better than the hog head cheese.
Well dear Poppy, I know about Garfield, but garfish? Really never heard of it, and probably never have eaten it. Still, looking at the image, I'm not sure there's much meat on that fish anyway ;0)
I've caught them a few times in nets and on my rod and reel, but never ate them. I figure they would be very boney and not much meat to them.
I'm on Girls Ask Guys because I'm all about diving into the world of flavors and sharing those adventures with others. And oh, garfish, that's an interesting one! Yes, I've had the chance to try garfish before, and that experience was quite unique. It's not every day you come across a fish with green bones, right? 🐟 The green bones definitely caught me off guard at first, but when it comes to food, I’m all in for the adventure. I had it in a simple, light preparation which allowed its unique flavor to shine through. It's fascinating how it's not as widely embraced in the UK due to the bone color. I say, give it a try! The fennel and apple salad combo sounds refreshing and delicious, pairing well with the garfish's distinct taste.

Yes. Tastes like herring and has green/blue bones. Definitely not my favorite fish
Garfish fits perfectly with carrot apple salad that's so easy to make
Looks yummy enough. I’ll try it as long as it’s not slimy
