Do German nutcracker dolls actually crack nuts?

The reason I'm asking is because my dad has been bringing home walnuts, but we don't have anything to crack them with, and it just so happens that I will be in Leavenworth this weekend, and I was thinking of buying my mom a nutcracker. But if I can't actually crack a nut with them, I don't see the point

The genuine ones do, in fact they're required to in order to be considered authentic. If you go into a collector's house every single one will actually work. There are cheap knockoffs that don't in airports and souvenir shops.

Honestly it doesn’t look like these trinkets & simple figurines would even be able to crack a nut…. I’ve seen metal nutcrackers used to actually crack nuts and those work more effective & efficient.
