Why DO YOU or DON'T YOU drink alcohol?

I do, but not very often. And I almost never get drunk. I mainly drink for the taste, but a little buzz once in a while is pleasant.

I like the taste of good, red wines and cocktails made with rum, gin or tequila. I'll even sip straight, good quality gin.

I like brandy and some liqueurs.
Port and dessert wines can be a treat. Mead is also good.

Beer really isn't my thing, but I do enjoy the occasional stout/porter on tap.
I do enjoy a Modelo Negra, Sapporo, Tsingtao or something with certain foods at restaurants.

I was never very interested in alcohol. Didn't like the taste, didn't like the effects, didn't want to waste my money... in the last ten years or so my consumption has further decreased to two, three times a year, where I drink an alcoholic beverage.

Because it no longer served the purpose in my life and it actually become a problem. I had an almost feral childhood and being intoxicated was a natural state of being for most occasions in high school in college. Those bad habits transfer to marriage and raising a family but were much less and manageable.

Unfortunately I have suffered from horrific insomnia since puberty and have gone for numerous sleep studies and tried every solution under the sun but, unfortunately only one thing seem to do the trick and that's where the trouble started. Would became a sleep aid became a poor choice of coping mechanism.

That said, people who do drink are WAY TOO FORWARD AND PUSHY AND INQUISITIVE why you are not drinking. In just about any scenario I can think of, it's absolutely none of your business so don't ask.

Now the sober amongst us, STOP PREACHING THE EVILS OF ALCOHOL! YOU Don't like or couldn't handle it! That's on you Keep it to yourself! Just because you're on a diet doesn't mean you're friends and family can't have a donut!!

I used to drink a lot. By todays standards I would be in rehab but back in the 80s everyone used to drink a lot. If you were out on Saturday nite you always assumed that the oncoming car was driven by somebody who was drunk.

@exitsteven. KNOWS THINGS!! Ya had to be there... My friend passed out at a stoplight in the middle lane of a busy intersection. No blinkers no warning car was still in drive with his foot still on the brake while he's passed out. The cop just wrapped on his window and said pull it over and walk it off. He managed to talk the cop into giving him a ride home.

a@DrPepper12 that sort of stuff went on all the time. A friend called me ;ate one Saturday night. He was all over the road and the cops pulled him over. The cops just told him to park the car where he was and leave it there overnight and get it in the morning. He called me to come over and pick him up. we went out for more drinks after that.
There was a restaurant where you could get a steak dinner and all the beer you could drink. It was on a major highway. Everyone would go in there and get absolutely shit faced and then go out and drive home.
