I’m a fair cook/dessert maker and my friend doesn’t have much money for nice meals, so he’s requested that I make a dessert for him as his birthday gift, which he can take home. He’s just a friend and a real Aussie bloke type, a man’s man, although he’s not rough or a bogan in any way. He’s proved himself to be a good friend, although not a best friend of mine.
I was thinking I might make truffles or chocolate spiders for dessert and add a big potato bake, with cream, lots of cheese and bacon in it, as it’ll be nearing winter by the time of his birthday and I have some amazing recipes for them. If he heats it up at home, it’ll taste every bit as delicious and comforting as it was when it was first made. Is this okay? If not, any other ideas would be appreciated.

Preparing a special meal and dessert for your friend's birthday sounds like a thoughtful gift. Chocolate truffles or chocolate spiders are always a hit, offering a rich and delightful treat for any chocolate lover. Pairing this with a creamy and cheesy potato bake is both comforting and perfect for the cooler weather, making it a hearty option to warm him up.
If you'd like to explore other ideas, consider baking a classic Australian dessert like a pavlova, offering a light but rewarding finish with fresh fruits and cream. A homemade lasagna could be another satisfying savory option that also travels well. Your friend's appreciation will undoubtedly reflect the effort and care you put into these dishes. 🎉
