I do not question the food habits of people that have been followed for years because for them it is normal. Now only your conscience can tell what is good and bad.

Depends how you define ethics in this field.


One cow provides 750,000-1.25 million calories.
One chicken provides 2800-3500 calories.


So the real question is, is it more ethical to kill one cow or 450 chickens? Personally, I go with the cow. If the cow is grass fed it is also sequestering more carbon than it cost to produce whereas chickens always need grain so there’s also a greater environmental impact for the chickens in that case.

FYI my family had chickens as a kid and we never fed them any grain. They literally survived and thrived off insects in the yard

Egg layers can survive on mostly forage but broilers need more food since they have to reach size within 8ish weeks and grow a lot more muscle than egg layers. It’s not totally impossible but it’s hard enough that just about no one is doing it for meat birds.

I don’t really think they’re lower as in worth less, but they are significantly less intelligent.
