School cafeterias selling iced coffee to students: yay or nay?

Personally, I do like the option to sell it as a wake up beverage, but I feel like a lot of students just use it like an accessory rather than as a wake up drink.

I don’t know…. I feel like we train people to be caffeine dependent, and I’m not sure that’s good. I’ve never had even a sip of coffee in my life. And I make it through every day without it. Then I meet these “don’t even TRY to talk to me before my coffee!” people, and I always think how if they said “don’t even TRY to talk to me before my morning cocaine!”, we’d be like “yo…. I think you have a serious problem…”

Is cocaine worse for you than caffeine? I guess I haven’t studied it, but I’d assume yes. But the point is the mental and physical reliance upon it, not the harm. Probably saves you $1,500-2,000 per year if you DON’T have even just a cup-a-day habit.

So, whatever, it’s not the end of the world. But I remember when I was kid hearing that kids shouldn’t drink coffee, for reasons never explained past “it’s not good for you, it’s for grown-ups.” So I think I’m conditioned to think of it as an 18+ product, and the idea of a kid having it seems, not out of bounds, it’s probably fine, but just maybe sub-optimal

The college I teach at has energy drink vending machines / That shit is the worst stuff you could drink. We are creating a whole generation of speed freaks.

A lot of schools force kids to wake up way too early (when it's been proven to be unhealthy) to make life easier for staff and parents. The least they can do is give them coffee.

At the high school I work at, the students have to be in class by 7:30 am. But they go home at 2:15
