For example, you’re prepping a salad to have with dinner. Are you popping tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, etc in your mouth as you make the salad?
For me, guilty as charged.

Yep. I do this just about every time I make lunch or dinner. Anything that is cooked or edible uncooked goes in my mouth. At least a little bite here and there. It's a habit that I do almost not even realizing I'm doing it. I drive my girl absolutely nuts in the kitchen when I do this. I think it is mostly because like most people you get up to make dinner when your hungry and so it is hard to resist popping a piece of this or that in your mouth as you cook. I say what's the harm in it? I look at it as a reward for doing the cooking. Just like @CubaPirate does I'll also have a glass of wine as I cook especially if the recipe calls for wine. One sip for the meal and a gulp for Maya.
When I was a kid, there was a Cajun chef I watched named Justin Wilson on PBS. He would get hammered almost every episode while cooking.
Caught red handed!
How else would you know if it tastes the way you want? The problem is that I have to snack here, snack there and by the end of the snacking, I realize I have eaten most of the food.
I do just like James the Foodie. Nibbling here and there. We must be related.
I do most of my cooking on the weekends and usually prepare enough to feed a battalion. The battalion actually consists of me and myself. I prepare my food for the week when I am studying so that I have a warm meal during my lunch break.
Absolutely, I often find myself nibbling on ingredients as I cook. It's part of the fun and exploration of flavors. When I'm making a salad, tasting each component like juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, or tangy olives helps me balance flavors before they blend. I remember a time in Italy, where I savored sun-ripened tomatoes straight from the vine – a taste I'll never forget! 🍅🍋

Sometimes to check out quality
Yeah a little just to make sure that it's ok to feed everyone. Sometimes it needs a little more or less of something and I have to fix it a few times before it's right. (And funny enough, by the time the table's set I'm not hungry anymore bc I've tried everything.)
Always with veggies. Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and my absolute favorite, fresh green beans. I'm not a vegetarian but I think I'd do just fine as one 😁
I try not too, since that often ends up being my meal when I do. My partner benefits from it, since he gets a bigger portion, no complains there.
🤔😬😂
Personally, I think the secret point of the recipe starts there: While chopping the ingredients, you say “let me taste it”, while frying, “let me break off another piece”, etc., but suddenly, one third of the cooked food is gone!
Are you trying to say there are people who don't sneak a snack while cooking!😋😋😉
Some of the chopped vegetables, or chopped fruit in the case of desserts, will end up in my mouth. Let's say I'm 'pre-tasting' if it will make a good ingredient.
If that sounds like a lame excuse, it probably is.
Yes lol yes i do.
And I also like to taste the food to make sure it's coming along great. But I also wash my hands and the utensils afterwards.
I do at times but it depends on what I am making also. hbu?
No ma'am. Only to taste.
I remember the 15 minutes full hormone. So I'm like, nah, I want to savour this.
I don't, I take care of my teeth so I never eat outside of meals and never taste it before either.
I'm usually very patient, and I can keep my hands off until dinner, but sometimes I do snack, especially tomatoes and olives... I try not to.
Yes, a good cook will taste their food before giving it to others to eat.
Hopefully, this works. This is what I’d do with that crap of an Ai.

Just to taste my stuff to check if it's perfect.
Absolutely. I like to taste what I am preparing.
That would depend on what I am making. I make many meals for my husband that I never eat myself.
Oh yes , got to sample it before indulging in it 😊
I don't really snack at home that much. I'd rather just eat a regular meal or go without
Not the food but I might have a cheeky glass of wine if I'm cooking with it lol
I take a bite of it to make sure it tastes good as I am almost done, that way I can make adjustments like adding more spices or salt
I think you're supposed to. It helps you taste the mix of ingredients to make sure it's good
Yeah, I mean in order to taste it and make sure I don’t need to add any salt or olive oil or anything of the sort
Absolutely yes. and I also taste test the meal as I go to make sure the seasonings and ingredients are meshing well.
Yes, when I'm cooking I'll snack on the raw vegetables.
Sometimes if I’m really hungry… it’s usually fruit and veggies nothing big
No I don't. I'll taste test to see if it's seasoned correctly but no snacking
Yeah, but only to taste test. It’s not personal. It’s for the benefit of others
Of course! That is part of the cooking pleasure!
I taste to make sure it's seasoned right
Depends on what it is.
No, I just wait until it’s ready.
Yes! You gotta taste as you go!
Yes I have been known to do this.
Sometimes I do this.
All the time
I said no cause I rarely cook.
Yes I do.
To taste it as you go.
All the time.
Absolutely that's like 80% of the fun of cooking!
Oh, yes!
Sometimes lol
Cookie dough
Haha, guilty!
