I've never had anyone not tell me what a food was.
I've had BBQ roast goat (like a dark, gamey pork), and turtle soup (very flowery slimy bad chicken taste), but I knew what I was getting into. The goat wasn't all that bad with plenty of BBQ sauce.
If someone is a close friend of ours, they know what we like, and they aren't really into "new" stuff.
Re- your update.
I was offered some roasted insects once, I graciously declined.
Thanks for the MHO.
Just because I don't recognize it doesn't mean I won't eat it, or at least try it.
On the other hand, set a plate of macaroni and cheese in front of me (this is among my most disliked foods), and I'll find a dozen excuses not to take a bite.
Sure I trust my friends
And I know its likely to be a terrible prank but Get it wrong got to be strong, take it all the way till they think they got it wrong :)
and puke later
I would take a polite bite and mention how delicious it is and insist on knowing what's in it. I'd most likely be able to identify the main ingredients.
Thanks for the MHO ❤

If people can't be straight forward about their cooking, then I wouldn't trust them. Delicious is an evasive answer to a simple question. Any decent cook will tell you what they made, what's in it, and how they made it if you ask.
I’d want to know what it is... I’d get him to tell me, I’d fake an allergy if I had to.
im an adventurous eater, and have no problems trying it, but I want to know what it is.
I wouldn't even ask what it is lol I'd just eat it. I forget half the time that dishes have names and aren't just whatever they're made of.
I would eat bugs if they were homemade.
I'll eat most things that aren't junk food and I'm always appreciative of someone else cooking for me, so I'd definitely eat it.
depends on which friend that is...
some of them I can trust their taste... others I just do not, lmao
I look around and see if he has a dog. Then we become best buddies.
It's rude to refuse food but it's wise to see someone else eat it first.
I would go ahead and eat it. I don't want to seem rude.
I'll try anything that does not move, or talk to me.
There is a chance that I'm not fond of the taste... but how could I know without trying?
Your update: ''Here'' roasted insects are a wanted snack. Also eggs of certain ants make a delicious salad. I think when most people are ok with prawns ( :D ) - then their eating barrier is more cultural than visual.
I kindly remind them that Im vegetarian. As long as there is no meat I'll eat it.
My friends know how important certain ingredients are to me so i wouldn't eat it unless they reassured me 😊
I'll give it a shot as long as I don't see any sweetcorn. Worse that can happen, I hate it, and not eat anything else.
If it's a friend, I'll eat it. I trust them.
Until I find out what it is I’m not going to eat it
I'd take a small bite
I'll get an answer before I eat it.
Yes, it looks good to me.
Yes, I would.
No. Uh huh!
