Cod dishes, do you like cod?

Cod is a cold salt water fish common in North Atlantic and Pacific. Weight of Atlantic cod goes up to 100kg. This fish has white soft meat without smallest amount of fish taste when it's fresh. It's in Europe very popular fish in national cuisines.

Which cod dish would you choose?

Cod Greek type (it's called that way)

Battered Cod ( the classic )

Yes I like battered cod cause it feels so clean 🧼 lol like fresh clouds soaked in some kind of I don't know laundry detergent for infants or something. Like they were marinating in waters from heaven or something. I don't know why I feel that way but I do just about cod and the texture when cooked well. I haven't tried much of anything else as far as seafood goes. I would say I rotate between cod, tuna (even though literally not the BEST option there is, just too tasty and addicting with mayo), and then sometimes salmon if cooked a certain way or with lemon. Maybe some side or seasoning that really enhances the flavor. It’s not the best tasting in my opinion. But I’ve acquired a taste for its odd bitter taste. Feels pleasing to eat and knows it’s a healthy protein source for me. I won’t eat anything else. Shrimp 🦐 🍤 , caviar 🥚 , oysters 🦪, squid 🦑. On and on I just can’t do it 🤢.

The poop line in shrimp, the consistencies and appearances of slimy squid or oysters. I just CANNOT! The stenches are too deterring to even bring myself to try it. I may one day try crab or lobster cause it seems like it may be alright and quite solid/similar to chicken. But we shall see 😂

Over rated. The only reason it's popular is it was once a cheap plentiful fish and it was pushed as the gold standard. Look at the old birds eye adverts where they say only cod is good enough. Generations grew up suspicious of anything that wasn't cod, anything else wasn't even second best.

Now I will eat cod, because that's what the chippy serves. But these days you get a tiny portion and it's cooked from frozen. It's a poor product compared to other fish. Another factor is these things are the Dyson of the sea. Head down and suck up sand mud crap etc they love old smelly decaying food.

Salmon and tuna are real Dysons of the sea because those fishes are top predators. Cod below 10kg is somewhat in between. Those monster cods 40kg+ don't exist anymore.
With the price for cod it's true. Two century ago there was a law that a master can't feed his workers more often than 5 days with fish every week, because fish, especially cod was very abundant and cheap. Today it's not so common like haddock, pollock and other fishes for filleting. Often Argentinian hike that is still abundant in south pacific will be intentionally mislabeled as cod. Personally I would in 10 of 10 blind tests find out which fish isn't real cod.

Cod is nice.

However...

I had once been taken to a very fancy and very expensive fish restaurant. It was -well- disappointing:

- the gay-ish cook spent minutes each round to praise his own skills before we could eat.

- the fish was... just fish

What makes fish exciting is actually the stuff it comes with, or the stuff that it's prepared with.

So much for the taste.

And now:

whenever -meanwhile- I am confronted with ''seafood'' - I think: ''microplastics'', overfishing and piracy fishing (China is especially 'good' at that), sea water pollution, cruise ships' contamination, oil spills and such.

Conclusion: my taste buds enjoy it - my mind does not.

Those lipid like C-F bond ball particles which never decay in nature used for Teflon production are already in blood of polar bears and sea leopards on another side of the planet. I don't think we can flee somehow of those ever lasting fluorocarbon particles

Yes, this all is a little depressing. Same goes for farmed fish (hormones added) and so many other things in food production.

I LOVE cod. It's absolutely lovely. It's great battered, fried, roasted, grilled, or in stews like cioppino or spicy Korean soup. I never had it smoked. And I never tried that Greek dish.

Never had it, but Chinese cooks cook just with water and oil like everyone else. South pacific cod uses mostly in Asia tastes more fishy rather like flounder than Atlantic cod. That's why east Asians make this fish more spicy.

I like both Cod and Haddock, but I do not buy them frozen, I buy direct from local boats, you get freshly caught at a reasonable price, not the inflated price for mediocre fish you get in supermarkets that would have been frozen for god only knows how long.

I usually cook them battered or roasted/grilled with a Parsley Sauce.

Beer batter, yeast batter, baking powder batter, egg breadcrumbs batter... but I think fat used for fraying influences much more taste than the batter. I use clarified butter

Use to catch a lot of blue cod when I was a kid/teen fishing. It's a good fish for a lot of different dishes
