Yes, freshly-picked fruit can be great, but you have to be careful.

Several years ago, we had a cherry tree in our back yard. We picked a basket full of cherries and ate several of them, before realizing that every one of the one had a small worm in it. The extra protein wasn't harmful but we did learn to have the tree sprayed the following year, before picking and eating the cherries.

I try to follow a low carb diet, so fruits are generally off limits for me. I do occasionally allow myself a temporary indulgence, and I love fresh blueberries. I did grow a pineapple many years ago, and it was might tasty when I harvested it.
