Does anyone cook with applesauce?

When I left home I bought a cookery book, and I had a shelf full of ingredients. I even made my own applesauce, and I put custard on top, and I made my own trifles too.

My life being a chef only lasted 12 months, after I didn't like a meal I cooked for myself.

I still cook majority of my own main meals, but I don't make any desserts. They're mainly convenience foods, so cooking with applesauce is now a bit beyond me.

My Mum and Grandma are home bakers, and regularly make their own applesauce for apple pies, but I buy pastries occasionally at bakers, but usually at superstores.

I know applesauce also goes with pork meals, but my Mum has never given us applesauce with a main meal, and I've never had the sauce at a restaurant, though perhaps they have provided it for some dishes.

I haven't personally. We have a volunteer at our church Food Pantry who has challenged herself to make a "treat of the week" for the other volunteers. She has used applesauce as an alternative to other wet ingredients in the making of cakes and breads: they have all turned out quite well, so it must be a great alternative. Another alternative to help make a thick, rich cake is using full fat mayo. I HAVE tried that and it was fine. (And Portillo's think they created the idea- hah!)

This one is going to sound weird, but trust me it's good

Take a 3 pound pork roast, jar of chili sauce, 26 oz jar of dill pickles (juice and all), jar of apple sauce. Put all in a slow cooker or roasting pan. Cook until meat is fall apart tender. Then discard the pickles, they did their job. Shred the meat and serve on buns. "Dilly pork sandwich" Yum!
