What is it about the texture of onion I and others can't stand?

Flavor is fine, I can't stand the texture, if it's part of my meal I won't eat it.

If you cut onion there is a trick. If cut half onion in thin half rings, it's likely onion will disappear in sauce or soup. If you cut onion along growth axis it won't boil away easily.
Instead of fresh onions use onion powder.
