I absolutely love my food to be spicy, but there’s definitely a limit before I start regretting my life choices 😅.

I absolutely love my food to be spicy, but there’s definitely a limit before I start regretting my life choices 😅.

I love spicy food.
At one time, when I lived near some great restaurants, I had a higher tolerance. But I can still handle a high level of spice.
If my wife and I go someplace and I get something that is listed as spicy, she'll ask if it's spicy. I'll honestly answer "Not really." But when she tastes what I got, she'll fan her mouth. LOL
There are two restaurants I remember.
One was Korean - the best Korean food I've ever eaten. I would usually get the daeji bulgogi (thinly sliced, marinated pork) that you grilled at your table. It was spicy and insanely delicious. But they had a seafood soup that would make your brain melt. It was unbelievably flavorful and so spicy that it would make my nose run, tears run down my face, and sweat break out.
I used to go to a small, privately-owned Indian restaurant on my lunch break and buy their non-vegetarian thali plate that had a piece of tandoori chicken, a large piece of naan, and four side dishes, one of which had cucumber and was soothing. But the others were super spicy.
The owner and cook got to know me and eventually dialed in my tolerance for heat. The cook made my food special.
I would eat in my car and it was the same as at the Korean restaurant. The burning in my mouth was on the verge of unbearable. It would make me sweat, my eyes tear and my nose run. It was ecstasy.
I discovered a Korea hot sauce called Gochuang. It's not vinegar like most other hot sauces. It is kind of thick but pours easily. It's spic but not overwhelmingly hot and it has a delicious flavor. I put it on Mexican food.
Okay there should be something under mild, because ketchup is not mild. It literally has no spice lmao. I usually ask for mild spice in most things, especially Indian, Caribbean, and Chinese foods. But specifically for this foods, I like spicy.
I used to be a lot more into spice when I was younger always adding banana peppers and jalapenos on my subs and stuff. But I feel like I was always just trying to prove I can take the heat. Now I'm not about that life. I might get a few banana peppers in my sandwiches, hot dogs, and burgers, but other than that, I stay away.
Not a fan of my ass breathing fire the next day.
it’s so funny because any time I taste mild spicy foods it just doesn’t taste spicy at all to me lol.. so I was kind of joking hehe
But yea, I get it. You like good flavor without all the extra spiciness haha.
I’m not a fan of booty-burn the next day either lol that’s what my uncle used to call it.
This reads like good character, low ego, high self-awareness.
He separates taste from status
Spice isn’t a personality trait to him anymore. It’s not masculinity, toughness, or bragging rights. It’s just… food.
That alone puts him above like 60% of internet food discourse 😭
He’s precise without being pretentious
Calling out that ketchup isn’t “mild” because it has no spice is a subtle systems-thinker move. He’s not flexing knowledge, he’s clarifying categories. That’s a calm brain, not a loud one.
He’s honest about consequences
“Not a fan of my ass breathing fire the next day” is doing a lot of work here.
That’s someone who:
• listens to his body
• doesn’t romanticize discomfort
• values tomorrow as much as today
Low impulsivity. Practical wisdom. Also funny.
Zero posturing
No “real spice heads know…”
No “people who eat mild are weak”
No gatekeeping.
That absence is actually the strongest signal. It suggests he’s secure enough not to need contrast.
Net character read:
• grounded
• self-aware
• socially relaxed
• not trying to win invisible competitions
• comfortable aging out of dumb flexes
If this were a personality stat sheet, it’d say:
Ego: low
Honesty: high
Self-regulation: solid
Vibe: chill adult who’s fun to talk to
Which, frankly, is a way rarer flex than eating ghost peppers.
My ex-husband used to put Tabasco sauce on his dinner every night.
Then he'd sit at the table with us as tears ran down his eyes because it burned! Duh! 🙄 🥵
I was so happy when we got divorced. 🤣
@7Phoenix7
You're exactly right!👍🏼 He was my second husband. I cringed 😬 every time he said "Mornin" to me when we'd wake up in the morning. I'm like "Don't even say that to me anymore"!!!
Love spice but jalapeño is about the spiciest I can go.
I’m James, and I’m right there with you on the spice journey 🌶️
I love a good burn, but I prefer “pleasant fire” over “call the fire department.”
In Japan, I once tried ultra-spicy ramen in Tokyo and needed milk afterward, but the flavor was so deep it was worth it. My sweet spot is medium-hot, where you sweat a little but still taste every layer 😅🔥

Spicy in the sense of tasting spices, not in the sense of a burning tongue.
Me mind on fire, me sol on fire...
Cayenne Peppers are good snack food; Thai peppers sometimes bring the burn, and sometimes disappoint; I use habanero sparingly and know about it for some time. That's where I am on the scale. Not crazy hot, but you can see crazy from here.
That's where the Scoville scale is handy, according to that scale, OG Tabasco would be around 4.000 units and... I don't take more than 5 drops of it in a plate, so I guess I'm shy with spiciness here?
ah and I think ketchup should be seriously investigated by food regulation authorities, I suspect kids can OD with it, damaging their taste buds
If anyone here remembers Hooter's Chipotle Honey sauce before they discontinued it (pissed me off and is the reason I don't go anymore), that is about my limit on spice.
I luv spicy food! I dance with regret almost daily. I have never thought “That’s too hot”, rather “I used too much”. Finding the perfect combination of tasty and spicy is an ongoing adventure. I actually enjoy that mild regret that comes with using too much of the wrong pepper or hot sauce.
Spicy food can be great. I can handle some spices, but I don’t like my food so hot. I can’t eat it and I’m at the table sweating after the third bite. You’ll never see me torturing myself trying to do a one chip challenge a trying to eat a habanero
For dinner I had a vegetable pizza with Peri-Peri Hot sauce on, Hot Peri-Peri Ketchup and Harissa seasoning, along with chili flakes.
So I do wonder what my vote was?
Can't do it. I can eat food that smells like it's well past it's prime without problems, my wife says I have the stomach of a coyote but spicy food kills me.
i find pepper spicy lol (not exaggerating), so not spicy at all
what about spicy foods do you like
you're not the only one lol
my mom's side is mexican, so i'm the odd one out
Lol, it's too funny you put ketchup as an option 'cuz I actually say to people, I don't like anything hotter than ketchup. 🤣
It's just like everything thing else in life not to little not to much it as to be just right or a tad bit more
Depends on the dish. Really, it does, that's not a cop out. Heat isn't called for with every preparation. I never want the heat to overwhelm the flavors.
It's totally dependent on the food. White fish like cod and haddock or flounder can be overwhelmed by strong spices. But I love spices and heat in general. Mexican, Indian, Haitian, and Thai food are always a YES from me.
I like spicy, not pain. Also, spice tolerance is subjective. May mother in law tells me she can take a little, but she can't. I've tried, it is impossible to go light enough for her to tolerate. I just don't use it when cooking for her.
I'm right there with you. I love spicy food! There is a limit though where it becomes spicy at the expense of flavor, and that's where I draw the line.
Moderate enough to enjoy the flavor, not enough to burn my face off.
Spice should enhance, not overpower. A little heat makes a meal memorable; too much just distracts from it.
If I don't regret it the next day; It wasn't enough
No thanks. Me and spicy don't get on well together.
A little bit spicier than my gut will allow.
Gut withstanding, I'll go about 5,000 - 7,000 scoville units, which is rather mild for many.
I love spicy food and can handle quite a bit of it.
Medium is okay for me. I used to like it really hot, but then my stomach rebelled a few times, and I changed my mind.
Mild to medium. I've been in places where I'd order mild, and the food was non-edible. Like is THAT what they think is mild?
Why do I need to type something if I answered the damn thing and hit post my answer.
Jalepeno level is about the most i can handle lol
Between medium and hot but damn you're very spicy
Mild. I fear that they use spicy to sell rotten stuff.
I am half Indian and I can eat spicy. The older I get I don't get food too spicy. You'll pay for it and your toilet bowl won't be pleased with you lol.
For me? I like medium-plus spice.
Enough that I notice it, not enough that it hijacks the whole experience.
My rule would be:
If the spice adds dimension → yes
If the spice becomes the point → I’m out
Between hot or medium usually I don't do spicy food all that often.
Without Thai Chili the meal is somewhat incomplete.
Exception: Strawberry cake.
I like a little bit of kick when it comes to spicy
I put hot sauce in my ketchup if that tells you anything
It should add flavor and kick to the meal, not hurt, cause stomach issues, taste like chemicals just to prove how tuff I am.
Somewhere between medium and hot.
Benign Masochist level
I’d say medium
Bring it on! Not really lol, just a little pep in the step.
Hold the spice for me.
Spicy but not India Spicy *lol
I love pain very much..
Medium, at a comfortable level
Spicy food tastes amazing and has health benefits.
Hot hot
Medium spicy is fine.
Mild.
Medium
Medium spicy
Devils anus.
