As for me I like fresh bagels & I miss having fresh bagels & where I live a good bagel shop is hard to find so I’m going to attempt to make my own. Did you ever make your own bagels?

I haven't tried to make my own bagels at home. I saw a video on tiktok that made it look so simple to make. I have made my own whole wheat loaf and that was so much better than store brought bread.
You are the Queen Of Cardio & making your own loaf is definitely healthier. As for making my own bagels I’m in the same boat & I haven’t made them at home either. I’m going to give it a try. There are so many videos so I’ll watch a few of them & go from there.
Lol I only made that loaf once so far just see if it was good. I usually make banana bread. Let me know if you make it , I'm curious if it will taste good.
As for me I’m not really a baker & hopefully my smoke alarms don’t start yelling. As for me I can cook, that is my thing. As for baking the last time I made muffins they were like hockey pucks. I’m in the mood for banana bread, thanks a lot.
What's your favorite meal to cook? Lol 😅
My all time favorite thing to make is stuffed peppers & I love those things & love making them. I also like to make lasagna & when I make lasagna I don’t eat it that night I let it sit a few days so all the flavors mix together. As for the stuffed peppers I always make extra & my neighbors love them. I trade the stuffed peppers for smoked ribs & brownies & life is good.
I love stuffed peppers. That sounds so good. I make my own lasagna but I haven't tried that method.
Lol. I actually gave up meat over a year ago so now I make a vegetarian lasagna.
Like any kind of pasta, lasagna or anything like that it always tastes better a day or two later because it really soaks in the flavors. Speaking of vegetarians there is something I always wondered.
Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?
Meat excluding seafood so I'm Pescatarian. Haha. Animal crackers are good and crunchy 😅
As for my sister she’s kind of a vegetarian & I don’t what you would call where she only eats chicken, turkey & fish. As for me I’m a carnivore & I love racks of ribs, steaks, bacon, the works.
Interesting lol.
Just looked it up, my sister would be a pollotarian.
I just looked that up. I didn't even know that was a thing
As for me I’m an omnivore but more on the carnivore end if that makes sense.
Lol Have you ever tried not eating meat for a whole day?
Of course I have especially on pizza days.
Yes, my favorite bagel is the chocolate chip bagel from Noah’s bagels and they don’t sell it anywhere else. So I made it. ☺️ I’ve made it about two times.
That is one thing I really miss & I miss the freshness & the taste of a great bagel toasted & loaded with butter. As for a chocolate chip bagels that sounds delicious & making your own you can add as much chocolate chips as you want. I started watching videos & I’m going to have to give it a shot at making my own. I’m going to get creative & have some fun & make a mess in the kitchen. Thank you for taking the time to answer & comment on my question.
Any bagel making tips?
I’m heading out tomorrow to buy a mixer so that is my incentive to start making my own bagels & pizza dough as well. Thanks for the tips.
You know I’m going to get a mixer I have my mind set on it already just like I have my mind set on a pizza oven. I know I can mix it by hand however I’m going to take the easier approach on this one.
Yes, I’ve made bagels at home several times, especially when I missed the real bakery ones 🥯
The magic is in three things: a slightly stiff dough, an overnight cold rise for flavor, and a quick boil in water with a bit of barley malt or honey before baking. Topping them with sesame, poppy, or everything mix feels incredibly satisfying. Fresh from the oven, they beat most shop bagels.
My AI brother from another mother we all know you are full of shit with you say you have made your own bagels at home several times. However thank you for taking the time to answer my question & for giving me a few tips as well.

No I didn't make any bagels. However I'm sure 1,5h fermentation isn't enough time to develop enough aroma just from wheat flour, water, salt and yeast. They look good like she does them with cooking and baking but I don't think they taste especially good.
I think wheat yeast dough need a small part of cold pre-fermented wheat dough or pre-fermented rye sourdough or entire dough need to ferment at least 24h in the fridge.
Watching a few videos it’s 1-4 hours at room temperature for a standard rise however 8-72 hours for better flavor & cold fermentation in refrigerator. I always thought like pizza dough it had to be 24 hours. A few minutes ago I watch another video & she let the dough do its thing for 1 hour. WTF?
Not happening, I'm not going to deal with bubbling bicarb! I have to pick-up leftover bagels from a local shop every week for our local Food Pantry, so I'm sick of seeing the things anyway. ;- )
Totally understandable & that is nice of the local bagel shop to donate to the local food pantry.
I've baked our own bread, baked desserts- no problem. Just not bagels.
nope... not something I've ventured to try yet
I’m the same way & haven’t tried it either. I’m going to give it a try.
I might try to make some sort of Mexican bagels
Yep, I should make them again. Its quite the process but so worth it!
A process it is from the videos I have been watching however it’s a process that is well worth it as you say. I’m going to give it a shot. I’m always up for trying to make new things.
I made a bunch when I did and just froze the leftovers, definitely the way to do it
my wife made donuts a couple of times but never bagels.
Donuts always hit the spot & homemade ones are so good.
Not a fan of bagels so I have never made bagels.
I like your honesty & thank you for taking the time to comment as well.
Actually, I'm still trying to figure out why bagels are a big deal in the first place. They don't impress me at all.
As for the bagels where I live they don’t impress me at all. Like fresh bread when a bagel comes out at the right shop & you can smell them a few blocks away all you want to do is breakout the butter or cream cheese & enjoy it. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
There’s a really good bagel shop near my house.
Stranger Danger! How the hell are you stranger? As for a really good bagel shop near your house I’m jealous on that one, lucky you. 🦥
no I never made bagels before
As for bagels I like them & as for mom & pop bagel shops where I live there aren’t any. I have a chain bagel place 20 minutes away from my house & their bagels suck & from the taste of the bagels I think they are made elsewhere. My goal is to make my own or at least give it a try.
Cinnamon raisin & everything bagels were always my favorite however I’m going to step out of my comfort zone & try to come up with some unusual flavors.
