What Is Your Opinion On Air Fryers?

Question

I'm thinking of buying an Air Fryer but I know nothing about them.

I fry most things at present, so I think an Air Fryer will be much healthier.

What should I look out for when buying an Air Fryer for a single person?

Are Air Fryers worth buying, and are they easy to maintain and keep clean?

What problems are associated with Air Fryers?

Ya know what? I actually love having one! I didn’t think it was going to be useful, was completely disinterested in them, and then got one as a gift. And it turns out, that it kicks ass! I use it all the fu*king time. Like multiple times a week.
It’s compact, I have an abundance of cabinets and counter space anyway, but it cooks super fast, and I don’t have to turn on the oven, or bust out the pots n pans, so that’s great—AND it literally has two parts: a basket drawer thingy and like a metal mesh insert thing. That’s it. It is not like a food processor, with 500 parts and a disaster to clean or maintain. The main body of it of course, gets a good wipe down with hot soapy water, as part of meal cleanup, etc. but I love how easy this thing is,

You can use it for one or two people for cooking all sorts of stuff: Veggie burger patties, chicken nuggets, frozen fish, burgers, etc. —I love to toss in and roast cauliflower florets with a little olive oil, salt/pepper/onion powder/garlic/etc. and pop them in there, and they’re great! I’ve done zucchini in there, and it’s also great. It makes home made French fries really well, in like 25 mins. (Damn I sound like an info-mercial but this is all true!) …

Needless to say I’m the last person who thought I’d use it or like it, but it’s great.

It's like a convection baking oven just in small format. For smaller meat pieces like chicken and duck legs, or breasts, French fries or even small pastry it's easy to clean and energy saving option to baking oven.
It's practical because the bowl that collects fat and water fits easily in dishwasher

It’s not a substitute for deep frying, it’s like a mini convection oven. A countertop convection oven will also do the same thing. I like it because it doesn’t heat up the kitchen like a big oven, and it heats up quick. It heats food up faster than an oven.

Air fryers are basically tiny, powerful convection ovens, great for a single person and much lighter than deep-frying on the stomach 😄

For buying, choose a reliable brand, basket style, around 2–3 litre capacity, with an easy-to-remove nonstick basket and simple controls. They’re quick to clean if you line the basket or wash it soon after use.

They excel at frozen foods, potatoes, wings and reheating leftovers. Texture is more “oven-crisp” than true deep-fry, so expectations matter. Cheap models can be noisy, have flimsy nonstick coatings and uneven heating.

I use mine often for late-night “snack experiments”, from miso-glazed salmon to crispy chickpeas. For me, absolutely worth it, as a supplement to the oven, not a full replacement for pan or deep-frying.

Before you buy one, look up some recipes for the air fryer.

That might give you some ideas about how to use it and what kind of food you can make with it.

There are probably videos on YouTube about how to use one and how to clean it.

I remember having to buy silicone or paper filters for the basket so remember to buy everything you'll be needing for it.

If you watch the videos of people cooking with one, look at the utensils they are using in case you need to buy something you don't already have.

There are a few things that go better in the air fryer and some things that go better in the oven. I use the grill part more than air fryer itself because it saves me going outside in the summer. It's of course not as good as the real barbecue but it is fine.

Make sure it has sufficient capacity. You may be cooking for one most days, but you may occasionally want to cook for two or more. Larger air fryers are not that much more expensive.

Try to look at each model out of the box and think about how difficult ir will be to clean it afterwards. Some are much easier than others.

They are good for certain thing, and other things they aren't as good as a traditional deep fryer. I both a traditional air fryer and a toaster oven style air fryer, and they just don't compare to my traditional deep fryer for certain items, especially when making fried chicken, tho my air fryers are excellent at reheating fried chicken.

I’ve heard they’re good. Give it a try they’re not that much. You should probably buy it in person in case you don’t like it. You can easily take it back. Just walk into the store and any reliable company will return it no problem and you get all your money back

I use a toaster oven with an air fryer setting. It’s great for toast, smaller meals without heating up the whole kitchen, snd extras like appetizers. I probably don’t use the air fryer setting as much as I could, but I wouldn’t want to live without it

Our oven has an airfryer mode. We do use it but its not as good as a regular fryer. Since we don't have one of those its a good alternative to the local snackbar some of the time. But taste wise the real deal is better.

I think it's an oven that has a fan. Not exactly revolutionary.

It's a way for people to "feel" like they're frying something but in a healthy way.😆

If you want to get one you can. I was given one as a gift. I hardly ever use it.
