Hah, I just responded to your other question. Now I know what you plan to do with them. Squid do make good bait.
I like eating squid when it's prepared well, like the small rings battered and fried with marinara for dipping. I've also had "steaks" from larger squid that I think were dipped in an egg batter and sauteed in butter. That was really good. I have never cooked it myself though.
I also like octopus, a lot. I have cooked a few of them sous vide and then finished them over hot charcoal and basted with olive oil, lemon juice and herbs. It turns out tender and tasty that way.
Happy fishing Ms Poppy.
Yup, I love calamari and pulpo. The key with octopus is to par boil it and then remove the outer membrane (skin) from the tentacles before grilling it. Time consuming but essential to the finished product. It totally removes the "rubbery" aspect of it.
Don't over cook the squid. Like all seafood, it cooks fast.
A lot of Australians love their calamari rings at the pub but I'd rather chew chewing gum.
The Mediterranean diet is ubiquitious in Australia (all those Italian and Greek immigrants we picked up in the post WW2 sales) but some things can be taken too far. Eating squid is one of them.
I'm with you. Congrats on having a bait freezer by the way.
I like it. I only get it at restaurants. Fried calamari or larger squid. I usually get the calamari and one of the best places I had it I got to know the owner and he said his secret was using corn meal to batter it in instead of bread crumbs.
No I don’t like octopus it’s horrible I can imagine. I don’t like seafood, but I do like tuna fish sandwiches and New England clam chowder me, and my sister are not into seafood. The rest of the family likes it
Noooooo, oh hell nooooo. That’s a hard NO for me. I admit I’ve tried calamari once, and once only, and didn’t care for it—it was a texture thing. I can’t imagine how you could incorporate that kind of sea creature into a meal.
I tried calamari once and didn’t like it. I have no interest in trying it again.
Nope, I'm a vegetarian, but even before that... I never liked the idea of eating something with tentacles... it looks like some alien monster :-P
I've had calamari before... it was alright
I do prefer it as part of a phenomenal Paella though...
I like it natural, as in ALIVE because it's absolutely unnecessary to kill it for some weird fetish as being top of some dumb food web
I like squid and octopus, but I've only had it at restaurants. I have no idea how to cook it.
my wife fries it up. It is not my favorite seafoood.
Nah. It's too rubbery.
If it is cooked right, yes.
Salt and pepper. Green salad.
never tried it before
Nooooooooooooooooooo

I really like squid and octopus when they’re treated right 🦑
The key is either very quick cooking or very long. For tender results, I usually clean the squid, pat it dry, slice into rings, dust lightly with flour, then fry in very hot oil for about 60–90 seconds and finish with salt and lemon.
For something cozy, I braise squid slowly in tomato, garlic, chili, white wine and herbs for at least an hour. It becomes soft, almost buttery, and loses that bait association completely.
