I'm inclined to agree.
However, as I've outlined in my own articles, jerks are preferential to nice guys because they are simply more attractive. They have confidence, they have charm, they are an enigma. All good things. Nice guys are cowards, clingy, needy and lacking a backbone.
What you want to be is a man. Confident but not arrogant. Self-assured, independent and aloof, but not callous.
Its ironic that this characteristic is famous all around the world not just one particular country.You visit any part of the world you can here this quote "Women like jerks" and when women get hurt they blame us that "All men are looking for only one thing".They blame us for their fault which is typical of a woman.
I should point out that this article is not aimed at guys who keep girls teetering on a string. I was explaining why girls seem to be hung up on guys who appear to treat them in a disrespectful manner. So, I am not sure what response you are looking to get with your question because this article isn't aimed at the jerks it's aimed at the guys who question why women hang around them. But personally, if you tell a girl to stop and she doesn't, then you have a right to be blunt. Period.
Okay, good points all around. Now, suppose you were in the shoes of the guy and you had girls calling you and texting you and considering you were in a relationship with someone, it was awkward. How would you get the proper closure with those girls so they'd stop? You've had the talks and the don't call me anymore and finally you just start acting like a jerk so they'd stop. What do you do if they don't?
Quit whining guys. Go after what you want. You only live once. why try and figure everything out. Figure out exactly what you want in a woman, find your little kick butt and take charge personality inside of you and go get your girl. The only things these jerks have is the confidence to swoon women and make them feel good at first. I agree with sugaspice.. the jerk comes out later, Go get your girl nice guy. go find some friends and hobbies so she can miss and think about you
I used to like a guy that you might call a jerk. He wasn't the nicest guy but he was really nice to me. He told me he loved me, and I honestly didn't believe him, but looking back I can see how he did like me. He could be really sweet. :S I don't know if he actually liked me or not but I liked him a lot.
Remember, every decision you make has a consequence. Be careful about being too hard on the nice guy and falling for the jerk. You may wake up five years down the road with 3 kids, a failed marriage and a jerk on your doorstep. At that point, that nice guy you met a few years back might not have been such a bad choice after all.

I think we're talking about several different things here. I am 36. I have no desire to date a jerk. I am not interested in crying on the phone to my girlfriends over the BS that my boyfriend is currently pulling, begging him to pay more attention to me, appearing as a doormat in front of friends, etc.
A lot of that is maturity. I simply won't waste my time like that anymore. However, I DO appreciate a man who can tactfully stand up to me and put me in my place when appropriate.
I'm sorry, that's just a rationalization. Studies do actually show that women do like jerks more. Study, after study, after study shows that women are attracted to "the dark triad" in men, which is "selfishness, arrogance and narcissm". Women don't call it that, and they miss it when they first meet the guy, but then later notice it and go "wait, when did he become a jerk"... He always was...

I'm getting pretty annoyed by all the female apologists trying to play off women's negative behavior as cultural myths or misconceptions.
Evolution didn't wire us to be happy, it wired us to be reproductively successful. That's why women go after "jerks", asses who take what they want and know they deserve it. it's part of our innate psychology.
There is no profit in a guy denying this, and unless you want to be alone, gentlemen, embrace the arrogant asshole within
I've personally known guys who treated women like servants, cared only about themselves, yet had a new girlfriend every month. The secret is that they'd lavish attention and love on them in the beginning, then turn it off and leave them wondering what happened, just like you said. Then the girl would try even harder to get it back, at least until she got fed up or he dumped her. Works every time. Meanwhile, the nice honest guy hears "I like you as a friend" 99% of the time. Ain't life grand?
Actually, a lot of women like jerks as a direct result of having a jerk for a father. its been proven that women subconsciously are attracted to people who resemble their fathers. you make good points too, but if a guy is a jerk, he was just holding the full extent of his jerk-ness back until he was comfortable enough with you to "let it hang out," as it were. also, YOU try telling someone the dude they're with or being hit on by is a jerk,see how that turns out
The only logical explanation for it is that those same behaviors and patterns that allude to his dishonest intentions ARE what is attractive to women, hence the saying:
"Chicks dig jerks."
And then a week later, you hear him brag about how he "got lucky" with her and won't ever see her again despite the fact that she's probably crying her eyes out over the way he used her and left her.
It's not so much that girls like jerks but that they like men who don't care about consequences which also don't happen to care about them.
I also think some girls stay with teh jerks because that's what there used to there not used to the good guys like me I'm not used to nice guys I'm used to the bad guys cause well that's most of the guys I been with however I am changing that now
Great article! I honestly believe that this myth is just something guys use as an exscuse as to why they can't get girls.

Women like wealthy or good looking guys. This could be a jerk or a nice guy.
I respectfully disagree, based on answers from other girls that confirm that they actually DO like jerks.
