Girls, why does the word 'cunt' offend you so much?

Question

When a girl calls a guy a 'dick' it's fine. But when a girl is called a 'cunt' they become very defensive and overly dramatic instantly.

After all, 'cunt' is just a word. So girls (cunts) why does it offend you so much? :)

I was taught to dislike that one in because brits hate it its one of the worst ones out there in my thoughts.. there's a lot of names you can call me and I won't bat a lash at it.. but everyone has there word, and thats one of my least favorites... I dont call guys dicks.. I call them jerks. Also its really rude to refer to your audience as cunts when your talking about how they dont like being called cunts. Call me a slut or a whore but not a cunt.. Also the person useing the word matters.. if it was my boyfriend id ask for his reason before I sulked.. random dude be minmally unhappy... skeezy dude or family and i wouldn't care even if it is a distateful crude word for somethign girl happen to value. It makes me think you wouldn't be offended if i told you your penis is a understuffed sausage.. not very nice.. anywho goodluck with that...:/

It doesn't offend me in the slightest its a nickname for a friend of mine and if ever i refer to them i trnd to use their nickname or if im on the phone to them and my froends are around and i answer with hi cunt all my friends are like omg thats a horrible word no its not its just a word thats like saying dick is offensive to guys yes cunt can be used to describe a womans privates and some people find that really vulgar but i dont its the same as calling someone a dickhead. Just my opinion and i dont fond the word offensive :)

It doesn't a typically I don't really here guys throwing that word around too often we're usually calling guys cunts and putting down their "man hood" and like you said we use the term dick as well.

I personally don't care if a guy calls me one of those well at least as long as I deserve it. If I haven't done anything idiotic or haven't called you out of your name there's no reason to call me out of mine.

It's disrespectful if said towards women.

It has a connotation of being vile, foul, worthless etc. It's a woman's genitals (and it's a strong derogatory term).

So if you were to call them a 'cunt' it would be degrading, disrespectful of their dignity and basically saying you're an inferior piece of sh**.

Cunt just sounds disgusting, and it's used as a vile insult. I haven't really seen people use it playfully like dick or pussy. A lot of words are used as insults, but you have to accept that some words are more serious insults than others by the way people react.

I used to hate it for no apparent reason. I thought it was just a really gross word and it weirded me out every time I heard it, but then I subscribed to The Glucose Network on YouTube and it's this dude who does vlogs all day and he just fucks shit up in Australia. There are at least 10000 words in a vocabulary, why would you choose to call someone a cunt? If someone called me that it wouldn't offend me, but I would find it primitive and aggressive, so I wouldn't associate with that person.
So it's not the word, it's the lack of imagination for a better one + intention behind it.

those who do get offended probably do so because it's a disparaging word typically used to insult a woman. similarly i've heard guys get offended when called a dick when it's used as an insult

Just 'cause it's considered societally to be such a bad word I s'pose. It's unpleasant sounding and carries weight because it's not acceptable by most and so rarely used.

Logically it ought to be a more PC word for vagina because it has always meant what it means, whereas vagina comes from a root word which meant 'sheath' which is fairly problematic

I am old school and for me it's just a nasty word... my husband and I just had an argument the other night and he called me a fucking cunt and I am sorry that's unacceptable... Because it's rude. Part of the reason dick is acceptable is because people use it casually, not just as an insult. Also it can be a nickname for Richard which further makes it more accepted than cunt.
