i ask because there's a girl in my history class I'm interested in and I'm trying to gauge her interest. I have no experience reading when women are interested and when to make a move, I have never had a girlfriend

For me, when I have a crush on someone in my class, I sometime do try to take few glances of him like trying really hard to get HAHAHA. Like avoiding eye contacts etc But if he do talk to me of course im more than happy to reply him.

Try to talk to her and see if she look nervous or what. Does she even notice you in the first place or not? If not then try to get her attention like saying hello to her or what, smiling and small eye contacts etc. Just don't do it overly HAHA.
If she is smart enough she should get the hint. Slowly one step at a time :)

You've probably just never noticed before. It doesn't sound like you talk to women much. Maybe learn how to be friends with women before you learn to date them. Walk before you run, as it were.
