Why do girls pretend to be uninterested when theyre crushing on someone?

Well not all girls do this but the ones that do most of the time chase men they like away except the men that can’t take no for a answer.

But why do some do this? Well. Number one they may be ashamed or embarrassed to have a crush on someone. Maybe they have feelings for someone but don’t want anyone else to know about it. Second reason is they are just nervous of what someone else will think they are scared to stick their neck out there especially if they have been rejected. This is a HUGE reason…. They have been hurt and rejected by a lot of people and it’s a defense mechanism to reject someone and sabotage the relationship before you reject them.

Because they are people and don't know how to act. Ignoring it makes it "go away" ...

I can't speak for others, but for me it's because I am scared he'll be mad at me for it. I don't want him to get freaked out. I am not attractive at all. I don't understand for other girls because most are attractive and most guys would likely be happy. For me with my past experience, that is what happened. As soon as a guy found out I was interested, he would either be mean to me, be mad at me, or just end the friendship. When I was twenty-three, I lost a guy who had been my friend since Kindergarten. He talks to me sometimes now, but he always seems worried I might like him again even though I've moved on.

we do that so we could hide our crush from them, b/c we dont want to be rejected, some guys do this too,
as we get older
some stay that way others are ok yelling it out to the world... i personally think it would make my life so much better that he knows b/c if you tell him then he can tell u if he is interested back and you guys dont have to to play that mind game... but it could turn into akwardness with a friend... but whats better? lots of time of really really hard mind games for mixed signals... or just him finding out you like him?

I never really understood this either, but I think the only time I would act uninterested would be if I thought they weren't interested in me. I guess some girls might be really shy so they come across as cold, I don't think that's done on purpose, though.
If a girl is not shy, I don't see the use in pretending to dislike them, though, that's kind of pointless.

I think it's because girls tend to think that seeming overly needy and interested can cause the guy to also be uninterested so they try not to make it so obviously that they're really interested in the guy as to not scare him away.

I think both sexes are guilty of this though. But I'm not necessarily. . . so it's hard to say for sure.

common behavior from both sexes. i believe its a fight for control. over the self not the object of affection. especially when people are new to such feelings. it can feel like you're possessed by an unfamiliar power. controlling yourself becomes very important. this can come across as aloof distant cold disinterested but its just self control.

some people of course act this way on purpose just to play mind games, but i don't think thats the majority.

Maybe they just like the attention, but don't necessarily want to date. Usually, when I see the word 'crush', I have a habit of thinking the feelings are not that serious but just part of a temporary pleasure.

uninterested... could be because they know they have no hope of getting him. dislike could be to hide how they feel, just so that their private feelings aren't exposed.

The only time I've done that is when I wasn't interested in them... I have liked people but wasn't interested in any kind of relationship with them because I just didn't see it working out. We just wouldn't have fit.

Afraid of rejection is my best guess... Meaning they're afraid the person doesn't feel the same so they'll wait to get signals the other person likes them too to avoid embarrassment.

I do that all the time-it's usually because I'm shy. Teenagers aren't the only ones to do that. Either that or I'm really not interested.

They're afraid is looking like idiots when you reject them, so they want to know for sure if you like them before they let on how they feel about you.
