Why do women stalk on social media?

Who do women stalk and why? My friends say girls are naturaly curious, that once your approach them they will try to look you up online. I don't get it.

I stalked my last crush because I was curious why he would like me out of all the girls because he's a ladies man.
I got a general idea of him, stalked his ex (lol) and the girls he kisses in his pictures to see if I was pretty enough compared to them.
I also wanted to make sure he wasn't a pure fuckboy, find out about his political ideas, religiosity, mentality, family etc because I was afraid of asking him.
But honestly I don't do it often. I only stalked 3 guys in my life, the 2nd one I was 18 and third one 21 (3 years in between).

i don't know if it is stalking and yeah what I did was wrong but a few years ago I was seeing a guy for a year when I found out he had been in a relationship with another girl for 5 years and was now engaged to her when I found this out I searched online for the girl because I had been seeing this guy for a year i knew his friends and his work colleagues it was as shock so when I found the girl online I messaged her told her who I was and I told her everything

That's diferent. I'm talking about the pre-dating period, when you don't even know if there will be any dating.

i dont like to think of it as stalking, i prefer to think of it as investigative research. If im interested in someone, ill go check out their social media to see what they are like. But i don't do it to find out what they are doing or where they are going or that kind of stuff. Just, can they be trusted are they actually like how they represent themselves to me.

Not quite. I get it it's easier to get information about people now, but my question is why? I never do it no matter how interested i am.

It's not just women. Humans in general are very curious. I'd say that anyone who actively uses social media has "stalked" someone at the very least once or twice. It doesn't always have to mean anything, sometimes you're just bored and you end up browsing other people's profiles.
Not to mention that it sorta makes sense to look up new people online, because it gives you an idea of who they are.

i thought everyone who uses it does this. i dont. i think its creepy and i want to know things bc they told me , but i just assumed its a common thing. and certainly not specific to gender.

As far as i know, my friends mostly go to her page to show her to the rest of us. So i'm not sure it applies to both genders, because i don't know a guy who does it.

It's a way to get information without risking showing your interest. Honestly, sometimes I like to check up on exes; keep friends close and enemies closer.

I've never cyber staked ( or regular stalked for that matter) because you're getting into creepy territory, and I don't want to feel creepy.
If they want me to know, they'll tell me.

I don't. I hear guys do it just as much though, and some will say they'll find a girl suspicious and possibly not date if they can't find her on social media.

Mainly to see if they have a girlfriend or to look for other red flags. Girls are creeps when it comes to boys they're interested in, we just want to know more about them.

Well you see, if a guy just talks to us in general or does something that we feel maybe he likes us we would tell our friends most likely and try to find out more about you to see who you are and kind of interpret what would happen next
