Did I offend him in some way?

I have this friend who I'm slowly getting closer to. We really only started talking because we have a mutual friend, but now we are closer. So the other day all three of us were hanging out and this guy likes to tease me and stuff. I made a comment about him making me feel nervous, but that was the wrong word to choose. It's more like I feel that he only talks to me because of our mutual friend and I feel an awkwardness when I'm around him. He kind of brushed it off. So then I was taking him home and we were in the car for a good 10 minutes of complete silence. Which is weird because he usually doesn't shut up. (he was also quiet in the car ride over there, but I didn't say any thing.) He was quiet and he was shaking his legs. I finally asked him if he was nervous and he brought up the me saying that he made me nervous which I thought was weird because he's not the type to let something like that bother him. I tried to explain what I meant, but it's hard. I had tried to bring it up before and he said things like he does like me and that me and him should just hang out some time. I tried talking to our mutual friend and she just keeps saying he likes you trust me. So I've been texting him, but he is giving me like 2 or 3 word answers. He started liking these things on Facebook which are really random for him to start liking. I don't really see why that would have bothered him. Why would he start acting like this?
