Was he just trying to provoke me?

I met someone online, and we had a video chat, during the chat, we started to know each other, but there were some moments where I didn't feel comfortable like when I found out he has a son, he smokes, he doesn't like dogs and he started to tell me that after turning 40, I will remain single and alone if I don't open myself to others, also he told me that men are more physical, meaning that he needed touch to interact. I told him that I just want to be friends.

I told him we could meet on the weekend as friends, but during this days, I started to feel that he is very impatient, and because I was scared to answer him, he was losing his patience.

I decided to postpone the meeting, but he was already worked out that he just wanted either a Yes or No as an answer. I told him No, and hell broke loose, he started to taunt me with that's why I don't have friends, I am still virgin which is very very bad now at my age and things will be worse for me, that many will consider me a broken person if I am still virgin, etc, etc.

I know I was cold and that he could be right about me, but by his way of talking, I felt it was the right thing.

What do you think?

Was he just trying to provoke me?
