Did I offend him?

I've been speaking to this guy and it's going fine. We have video called, he texts me all the time. But on Friday he messaged me how my day was and when I asked him, he gave me this long message about some scientific ideas he had. As a joke, I replied "I love it when you talk nerdy" with a silly emoji, and he didn't reply.

Is he that offended, or was i out of order? He obviously wanted to discuss his ideas in depth and was hurt, but it was just a lighthearted joke. We're still getting to know each other and it was just a flirty comment.

Should I ask him if I offended him and tell him it was just a joke?

by the way, I have always taken him seriously and send long texts back. It was just this one time.

He might've rather been annoyed that you took an in depth explanation and just made a simple joke. He might've gotten the impression that you're not the most erudite of women.

I am interested in what he says but it was honestly just a silly joke. We have talked about a lot of things. We could have continued the conversation and talked about it more, but he just got really offended I guess. Should I ask him about it or text him again casually?
