I don't expect of them but I think some guys set it as a standard for themselves.
I have had more cases of if a guy walks in before me they will stop and keep the door open until I get there than a female doing thr same in the same situation.
I hold the door for whoever is walking behind me regardless of gender but especially if they're older. Oftentimes if a male is the recipient of this they will say thank you and go in, or hold the next door open for me in return, or take over holding the door for the person behind them (just say "thank you" and then "I got it" while I go in.)
My boyfriend will sometimes rush to get out of the car to hold the door open for me (sometimes he has me sit back down in the car if I get out before him XD)00 Reply

No! I am fighting for women's rights and this is one of the issue that is directly addressed.
No opening doors, no letting a lady sit down in the public transportation, unless of course she is pregnant or disabled and no favors associated with gestures towards the "weaker" gender. I also disapprove of gender specific roles such as cooking/cleaning for women and hard labor for men. Equal rights means equal duties.
However, I still appreciate to receive flowers. This has nothing to do with courteousness but as appreciation and kindness from the donor and I will also show my appreciation towards the opposite gender25 Reply
Asker+1 ybut flowerd represent vagina... you make the world a more ugly place

So you basically put everything down to its hidden sexual context. Thus a child that offers a flower to her/his mother signals her that he appreciates her genitals.
You see, that is exactly what disturbs me about those hidden meanings and how people twist everything to suit their purpose - +1 y
Yes double standards need to go
+1 yPft, no. I got that myself. If he wants to open like a door to a building, I'll of course say thank you. But I take that as common courtesy, as id do that for someone else if I got to the door first, or if they have a lot in their hands, or something like that. But no, I don't expect then to hold the door for me lol

+1 yNot car doors since that might be distracting to the spatial arrangement of the parking lot but if he opens mall doors I would feel special and well cared for. It's not a requirement but a tiny gesture that can make a very big difference in terms of how attractively you are pursued by the person you are dating.

Lets not misconstrue a man for a chauffeur same way women don't like to be mistaken for a maid

No, unless if i have my hands full. I'd open the door for him if he has his hands full with say grocery bags. But if you're asking in dating situation, you could use it as chivalry gesture. Women dont usually expect it but it earns you an exper point lol!

+1 yNope. I'm Dutch. Dutch women are very independent. I dated a transfer student for a while who opened doors and insisted on paying and all that, it was so weird to me.

@nathanp97 if you can handle her xD
A lot of foreigners find us rude - +1 y
@nathanp97 we don't hold open doors, often split bills and say directly whatever we think. We also tend to be distant to strangers, everyone just ignores each other on the street. At least that's what I've been told by foreigners.

@nathanp97 I guess. But without the delusions about becoming famous.
+1 yI don’t expect it at all. But just know I feel like a drop dead gorgeous celebrity walking through that door, and he’s the hot bodyguard I’m fucking. Or a pretty princess :P

+1 yNo, i've always done it by myself and i will continue doing it. I dont expect it. But if he doe i will be happy. I want him to do it on his own.
If he wouldn't, i wouldn't be mad at him.20 ReplyNot really. It’s polite for people to open doors for other people in general. My man does it sporadically, but I wouldn’t get mad at my man for not doing it every time.
