I gave a compliment to a girl and now she seemed distant from me?

I started talking to this classmate of mine in class and we hung out for a bit walking around campus talking about casual stuff like anime mainly lol. Then later when we're about to leave, I gave her a compliment saying that she was " really gorgeous today" or course she said thank you after. The next week for Tuesday class, I noticed she didn't go up to me to say hi as usual like what she usual does but instead kept her distance away a bit from me. I engaged for a short convo with her but now she didn't seem to talk much with me but nods. She wasn't like that before and was actually interested in talking with me when chatting up with her.
Did me just simply giving one compliment got her on guard, creeped her out or something and lose interest? 😅

Probably gave her an idea what your intent was and she wasn't interested in it. You barely know the girl and you did it randomly so you didn't give her much to go on. Maybe if you were a good friend she'd know how you meant it. But as far she's concerned, you're a guy she just meant commenting on her appearance. Of course it's going to look a certain way. And clearly she wasn't feeling that about you.

Just talk about normal things like what she’s up to and what her plans are. Stay interested in what she’s doing but don’t say anything about her appearance. Maybe she’s not feeling that beautiful right now so compliments make her uncomfortable. That’s how it is for me anyway, I can’t say for her.

She just thought you were being polite before. The compliment tipped your hand that you were more interested - and that means sex. She's just not interested - there is no attraction and desire there. It's called the FRIENDZONE.
