He won't tell me how he feels?

So, on Thursday I finally got ballsy enough to ask my partner of nearly 3 years "what our deal was". It's been a long drawn out undefinable issue.

I broke it off 4 months ago sexually because I told him if I got emotionally attached, I'd cut it off and leave him be. Apparently, this upset him greatly.

I asked him where we stood and he didn't answer me. I told him he was important to me, he replied "you are important to me too". He kept acting very nonchalant, as though I had told him the sky was blue. So I went, "I never expected you to react this way to me telling you I'm emotionally invested in you. I want you to know that you don't have to see me if you don't want to."

He replied, "awww".

It's obvious he's holding something back. Every time I try to get an answer, I get either aww or I hear what I just said only flipped differently.

Guys, what the hell is going on? And how do I get him to just blurt it out?

either way- why be with a guy who needs you to be distant or if you want to be distant why be with a guy?

That agreement was 2 years ago, when we figured friends with benefits was the best course of action. Of course, time complicates all things and I got tired of not saying exactly how I felt.

:) I felt rally bad reading what you wrote. If you care about a person, you should be able to feel proud of that I hate people actin like emotions are pathetic or complicated -its where we get our strength and courage from. dreams are made with them and victories won.

maybe you can work things out with him, because he could feel strongly for you as well... but don't compromise on yur soul you know:)

I don't understand. He's your partner of three years but you're not emotionally attached? Is it just a FWB thing then?

I am emotionally invested. Originally we were supposed to be nothing more than fwb, but on the agreement that if one of us ever got emotionally attached we'd break it off to spare the other person from feeling like they "had" to be a boyfriend/girlfriend.
