Do girls delay giving replies on purpose or is it only when they are not interested?

I only delay if I'm worried to answer way too quickly, so I try to play it cool and wait a few minutes.

If I am late at replying it's usually because I'm doing other things, I haven't noticed it or something alike.
It can happen though I have read it, don't know how to answer, and let it sit for far too long.
Or I can forget that I didn't reply.

Depends on the person. Usually in the beginning I'll try to act cool and not answer too quick because I don't want to seem annoying, but if you have to wait over an hour for every answer you get... Maybe they're not that interested anymore

I want guys to earn my trust and attention by investing in me - in a first conversation - I might discontinue the connection after 2-4 texts - after a few weeks - we can text for an hour - after a few months we can text for several hours - Its not purely intentional - strangers bore me because I don't have a mental connection to them and people I don't bond with emotionally bore me - I don't mind talking for 10 minutes but I am not going to have a long conversation with somebody who means nothing to me

That's the thing. We are in the same class , I'm the only guy in class she hangs out with. We sometimes have these long and amazing conversations. She snaps me selfies whilst in conversation. And sometimes she gives me this delay 10-15 mins (while online). So I'm confused. Am I misinterpreting things or not taking the cue?

The delay might be because another friend messaged her and she wants to briefly say hi to them - and hanging out with you and not other guys does not mean she likes you - it might mean she is focused on getting good marks and doesn't have time to hang out with more than one guy at the same time or in the same week or month

Yes & yes to what everyone else said. There could be a ton of unique/personal reasons why she’s delayed but they are all secondary to “priorities”. My phone is always in my hand, and I pick where my attention goes based on whatever order I choose to give attention to.
I. E I know I need to reply to my grandmother’s text but I’m answering a stranger online.
Be patient, the more you two talk or spend time together, you’ll become more of a priority. And if she doesn’t eventually see you as one, keep it moving !

I don’t think girls do that deliberately. Yeah it’s a possibility that she’s not interested, but speaking for myself I’m not the kind of person that’s always in one place. Life gets busy and there are times when I’ll go an entire day without texting or talking. I don’t do it on purpose, but I get preoccupied with my own life and I forget, or can’t do it right away.

It can swing both ways... I could delay a reply on purpose / because I'm not interested.. or it could simply be that I'm busy and haven't looked at my phone, or I woke up to a lot of notifications and cleared them all, or I saw the message and replied mentally and thought I actually replied.

I think you are thinking into it too much... I've had guys message like 20 times within the span of me showering and that just comes across as obsessive and desperate especially when they are asking where I am gone etc.

Just think of it like this, do you reply IMMEDIATELY to every message or do you sometimes have work/school or any other activity on?

Define delayed replies. We get busy, thus on occasion we'll not always be able to answer immediately. You might have to wait a few hours up to a day. However, if she's making you wait 2+ days regularly, she's not interested.

Delayed as in you're online but still take 10-15 mins to reply.

We sometimes have really good conversations. But I still feel a little insecure when I text her to start a conversation because of the aforementioned delay.

Maybe she's thinking what to write you back, it's not always easy when conversation is staling. Maybe she's talking to other people, maybe she left her chat open but left the room, she doesn't want to look desperate, doesn't know that you'd like to keep chatting with her right now, etc. Waiting 10 to 15 minutes is not a lot of time to wait for a text.

What you can do, when you want some immediate banter, let her know that right now you're enjoying chatting with her. That way she knows you're interested in carrying a conversation now and not later. The key is to eventually end the conversation in an obvious way like "I have to go, etc.""
