Guys, have you ever said "I miss you" to a girl without meaning it?

A group of girl friends and I were talking about this and a couple of us found that guys whom we were involved with (dating or in a relationship) would say "I miss you" to us when we felt that they could have interacted with us instead.

For example, a guy who lived far away would message me to say "I miss you" every couple weeks because he was really busy, even though he and I were on facebook (or g-mail chat) at the same time multiple times that week and he didn't message me once to talk to me (but had time to write on other girls' fb walls).

Or, a guy living on the same campus as my friend would text her "I miss you" ... even though they live on the same campus and even if he really was busy, could probably spend 15-30 minutes with each her each day (even if it was just lunch).

I'm not trying to "accuse" anyone. The girls' perspective is that the guys had time to spend with us, instead of saying "I miss you" later. And I'd like to hear the guy's perspective in situations like this. So guys, what do you mean when you say "I miss you" ?

Nope, I only say things I mean. I really miss this one girl right now :\ I love talking to her and I wish she'd also let me know what's going on with her. And if she'd wanna hang out. So fun to hang out with. She's sweet, cute, intelligent, great taste in games/music/etc, and other stuff. So if she comes in contact again I'll say "I missed you" and mean it lol. Why say things you don't mean? Just a waste of time/energy.

Btw, just because they are on facebook/whatnot doesn't mean they're actually THERE or free. Hell, I leave my browser/computer on non-stop and often leave GAG or gmail open.

To respond to your comment about Facebook/gmail, I understand that some people aren't really there. The problem I had was that he was writing on other girls' fb walls when he could have taken the time to write "hey! what's up?" on mine, instead of claiming two weeks later that he was too busy to talk to me.

Funny you should ask that. Usually, when a girl has been away for a while and finally returns, I'd say I miss you and not mean it. When a girl has been alway around but acting unusual, that's when I actually mean it.

I admit I have said it a few times without meaning it. I only say it when the girl says she misses me. What else am I supposed to say? I don't want to sound mean when they are being all nostalgic

depends on the situation. if he spontaneously said he misses u, he means it...why would he go out of his way to say that without meaning it

Nope, I've always meant it. When I say it, I really do mean I miss her and I wish I could talk to her.
