Why is this girl so hellbent on being friends with me after rejecting me?

I met this girl, we grew close, I fell for her, confessed my feelings to her and got rejected. She said she only wanted to be friends. I was really not interested in being friends with her, I only wanted a relationship. So I tried to walk away (many times) but she just won't stop hanging out with and contacting me. So I would flirt with her even if she told me not to and even crossed lines sometimes that she would get so mad and stop talking to me for weeks. And when I think she is gone for good, she would come back again.

Currently I just hang out with her because I feel bad for her and don't wanna be a dick to her. I just gave in to my guilt as I have hurt her many times in the past.

My question is why is she so insistent on being my friend? She is a pretty girl and I see tons of other guys trying constantly to be her "friend" and she just ignores most of them. She definitely has no shortage of guy friends if she wanted. Why go after the person who is pushing you away and ignore the ones who come at you?

It's good that you stated what you want but you're not standing your ground. Hold your frame. If i was you, i would straight up tell her again that I don't do friends with female, I already have many male friends. You don't try to walk away. You walk away, don't try. If she's not giving you what you want, leave. It's also a chance that this is a shit test women usually do to men to see who you are. In this case you failed the test. Women only respect men who keep their words. If there's no respect, there's no love or relationship. Respect is the foundation. That's why state what you want and you really mean it, is important. Grab some balls and walk away and mean it. Flirt or hang out with other girls. Have more options.

Girls are very cautious of such topics, espec sensitive girls who fear getting hurt or hurting you, telling you to be friends with her means she's safe this way, if you keep pushing her to be something else you'll loose her.

Some girls flee from men that talk about such things or want more than friendship, a girl that accepts more immediately is a playing, dishonest girl, that is not real.
