Why is there so much shame surrounding periods?

From a guy's perspective, it's something that has been HIDDEN, and we were never told anything about it, in Sex-Ed, and if we didn't have sisters, we would have no idea!
It wasn't until college, when one girlfriend explained so much of it, to me, and I was like, OK, and? Something that happens, and no big deal, and how can I make it better, or make her feel better?
Sometimes Ice cream, other times, late night trips to get things, with a part of a packet, ripped off, maybe as a "TEST" to see if I would?
Then sex, during that time! OK. Dark blue towels, just in case, and "Game ON!" and some needed that!
It doesn't have to be a SECRET, and it isn't anything that should carry "shame"!! That's just crap, and ignorance, for those that think that!!

I think it's wrong for anyone to shame a woman/girl who has something that Mother Nature gave her and any Man who makes fun of or says anything nuts he needs his
balls cut off and showed to him, Now that is crazy I lived with a Mother ( late) Sister who all had periods, and me and my Father never made fun of it, Like I said it's what Mother Nature gave you Ladies and Gentlemen need to respect her for it (( Hugs ))

My wife and I are in the medical profession.
We've been pretty open with them about bodily functions.
Our daughters are not shamed or embarrassed at all. They think it's funny when they bring it up at school and the guys eavesdropping cringe.
There's nothing about them or their bodies that they should be ashamed of.
It's an attitude.
It's a natural thing. It happens to half of the Earth's population.
Don't be embarrassed by it.
