Why are women so vain?

They are always putting on make up doing their hair, nails etc to look pretty, they spend a fortune on clothes shoes plastic surgery et al.

You are focusing on the wrong side.
There're women who don't do any or only few of that stuff. Just like another user here who was disappointed about women not being vain and not dressing up, the other group of women is invisible to you

I could say roughly the same about men tbh, but it's not just woman. People in general are like that. Homo sapiens are biologically engineered to be like that.

I think a good example is how men typically like to flex their ego using cash, basically the same but to a slightly different extent. Women want to be pretty, guys wanna show off. It's natural.
