Why are women SO OBSESSED with the following things?

The Color Pink: Even little girls... I give kids balloons at work, and when I ask what color, the girls will point at the pink balloon and giggle.

Cleanliness: Women go overboard with cleanliness. Everything must be organized perfectly, everything dusted, everything must be scented (bedsheets sprayed with a fragrance, carpet deodorizer, etc)

Shoes/Feet: Lots of women find guys with a foot fetish disgusting. Yet, they are obsessed with their own feet, each others' feet and pedicures. Lots of girls also stand around in a circle and take pictures of their feet. The girl I'm seeing right now will often check out other girls' feet and make comments "her feet are cute" "Gosh her polish is chipping" "Why is she wearing flip flops with socks?" "I wonder if she got those heels on sale..hmm" OMG SHUT UP

Trashy romance novels: The 400 page garbage novel by some short haired dike looking author with Fabio on the cover. The main guy in the novel is considered "sweet and mysterious" but in real life he would be considered CREEPY.

Anything on TV but sports: Reality shows, One Tree Hill, Twilight, etc. OK OK, some girls know about sports, but the majority of you don't!

Gossip: "She did this, he did that? She's such a, what a jerk...I did this today, I did that today, My boss is such a..blah blah"

Sappy flicks: The stuff to make you cry? why?

Diet Coke/Ultra Lights: And not just soda and cigarettes, but anything that says LITE, DIET, etc.

Organic food: Organic foods, whole foods, Trader Joes, ie. Salads...even at McDonalds, etc.

Fruity Drinks: Mango Margaritas, Cosmo, Peach Schnapps, Smirnoff Ice, Barcardi Silver, Mikes Hard Lemonade, Wine coolers, Apple-tini (or any tini) Malibu, Bay Breeze, etc. You can save more with harder drinks (drink less) than these fruity drinks!

Webcam/texting/photos:. Texting while driving (or driving while texting?) ...see section GOSSIP listed above. Also, 1000+ photos on Facebook.

These Cars: Toyota Celica, Scion TC, Chevy Cavalier, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Hyundai Tiburons, Mini Coopers, Dodge Neons, Volkswagen Beetles, some of these cars are mucho oogglly...

Things you do "for yourself": But seriously, you do these things for a guy's attention too, don't lie. Most of these things we don't care about: Press-on nails, hair highlights, excessive wrist jewelry.

Anything shiny or Neon: Glitter, Neon socks, tie dye shirts, shiny rings, necklaces, etc.

Stuffed animals and small animals: Kittens and these dogs: Affenpinschers, Beagles, Chihuahuas, or any dog on this link.

You're totally stereotyping lol, but anyway, the answer to your question really isn't complicated. It's about preference. Most of us don't obsess over all of those things, but if we enjoy them, it's simply because we like them. It's fun. Women are all different though, there are probably only a few women who like everything you listed. I'm sure if I came up with a list of generalizations about what guys like there would be plenty of exceptions, which pretty much deems the whole list useless. I think it's way better, and more interesting, to get to know people individually.

As for your list. . .

-My favorite color changes, but for some reason it's never been pink. I used to refuse to wear anything pink when I was younger, my way of "rebelling" or somethingg haha.

-I'm far from organized and neat, just ask my mother.

-I can't deny I love the look of some nice heels, but I think I only actually own 4 pairs of them. Pedicures are reserved for special occasions, but I take care of my nails and feet for hygiene's sake.

-Romance novels are good, but I can't stand the ones with poor writing and plot.

-Who watches TV anymore? Haha, but yeah, I don't watch too many shows. None of them are sports though, I never got into them.

-Gossip's not my thing.

-Sappy flicks are sweet :)

-Something about the taste of diet and light drinks doesn't appeal to me. I don't drink soda that often, but if I do, it's not the zero calorie type.

-I really don't care if food's organic or not, though I think I should look into changing that.

-Philosophical conversations are cool with me, discussing literature is probably my favorite though, along with ethical dilemmas. I'm not so into myself that I can't talk about other things and get to know a person, there are many women who are the same way.

- I own a pair of chucks, a pair of vans, cowgirl boots, two flip flops, and brown sandals. do my workout sneakers count? fine, add that on!

- I don't like trashy romance novels. tim o'brien and charles bukowski are two of my favorite authors.

- I don't like television. I watch four shows: True Blood/Glee/Portlandia/River Monsters whenever I get the chance tho.

- Gossip... not in that trashy he said, she said way. do I vent when somebody has gotten on my last nerve? sure.

You are kinda generalizing but then again I read your updates and I get what you mean by trends, for instance, if I went to a bar and ordered a Cosmo a lot of people would "generalize" me and say "why are you ordering a chick drink?" or at least think it if not say anything

We are just different. Although, VERY few items on your list would apply to me but there are a few of them that are psychologically/biologically ingrained.

Little girls like pink because they're MADE to like pink. It's been proven that baby girls are given pink because people think it makes them more feminine/gentle. Hasn't always been this way, for a long time boys were given pink and girls were given blue but then more women started wearing pink and bingo- the rules changed. So, if you're forced to wear pink, you start to like it. Personally I don't LOVE pink, I like it on occasion but I'm more of a purple/blue girl.

Cleanliness, women have more sensitive skin than men and are more prone to certain infections which are caused through lack of cleanliness. We're also more 'house proud' than many men and have a nesting instinct that makes us want to keep things in shape-this happens particularly just before a woman has a baby. We're just programmed to do it.

Feet- no. Not really. I've never known any girls who pay attention to other women's feet. We look after our own because as I said above, we're more sensitive so callouses and stuff can be uncomfortable. And I don't think men with foot fetishes are disgusting.

Trashy Romance novels. No clue. I hate the damn things. I worked in a book shop and every time a woman would buy another Mills and Boon novel I was just screaming in my head 'WHATEVER HAPPENED TO DICKENS...' I can only imagine that they give you an unrealistic image of love and we'd be better off without them in the world...

TV- I don't watch TV very much. However on the sports front, there are games I like and games I don't like. I LOVE rugby, so you'll find me scrambling for the remote but it's down to personal preference there.

Gossip-we're just designed to talk more. It's how we bond.

Sappy films- I don't know. I just like crying about someone else's problems.

Lite things. We're programmed to think thin is good. So many women like to do that in a public way by saying DIET coke or whatever.

Organic/non organic. I don't care. As long as it's fresh (preferably home made) and the animal I'm eating had a decent life (i.e. not factory farmed) I'm good. Oh and sushi is YUUUUUUMMMMMY! That's why.

Fruity drinks- women have more sweet taste buds than men so we prefer the taste. Simple.

Texting etc. I haven't known where my phone is for 5 days...and I'm fine with that XD

Those cars. No thanks, I'm a petrol head and they offend my sensitivities.

Pink: Absolutely hate it, even as a little girl I didn't like it. I think the idea is just reinforced on girls; to be pretty and girly, you have to wear pink - crap like that.

Cleanliness: I need order lol I can't even lie. I can't stand an excess of dirt, clutter, and odd smells. I enjoy cleaning it's a stress reliever.

Shoes/feet: I like shoes a lot, but it's only because I didn't have a whole lot growing up. As far as manicures and pedicures, it feels good to be pampered every now and then - and your feet look nice. I watched my mom get her feet done growing up, so that's probably an influence to, because girls learn most our femininity from our mothers.

Romance Novels: Make me gag.

TV:I watch sports during the seasons, but mainly I'm into Discovery channel, History lol, Animal planet (lol I know I'm a nerd :P ) and some reality. But who doesn't like a little drama every now and then?

Gossip: I'm a social chick; I won't gossip what I won't say to someone's face however. It's rather pointless and I'd rather handle the issue with the person instead of gossiping about it behind their back.

Sappy Flicks:I'm a sucker for the dramatic and heart pulling - but only because it feeds my creative inspiration.

I like pink but that's really the only thing on this list that applies to me and I don't like it because I'm "told" to or "expected" to I like it because it's bright and in your face.

And the reason women get defensive about things is because you guys don't believe us when we're actually telling the truth, so we have to protest over and over and you still never get the point. Well some do, most don't. Not to mention a lot of women will see this as "sexist" and sexism against women isn't taken lightly, but if you were writing this about a guy and you were a girl no one would give a sh*t how defensive you got because your men and your supposed to "suck it up" and "be a man".

But you do have a point, I don't follow trends but I'm in a group of friends where they ALL do at least 5 of the things on this list. And your comment about how we do things for ourselves but they're really for guys was a bit off. I've never said, "I'll highlight my hair so that guy notices me". If you got anything on that list wrong it's that one. Most girls genuinely do those things because they thinks that it looks nice and if men happen to notice that then that's great. There is only a small amount of girls that would actually change their appearance for a guy and they're insecure and needy and the kind of girls that men try to avoid.

But at the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with doing any of this stuff just like there's nothing wrong with being a stereotypical man (unless your a complete arse hole of course) it's just the way some people are. I think people like being this way and others like being different from this too, every one has their own thing I guess. So to sum up my point that I've made that you probably won't read because it's way too long is that I kinda agree and I kinda don't. Just depends on the person and who really cares anyway, because chances are you've probably fallen in love with loads of women for these exact reasons right? Anyway, there's my 2 cents :)

1- I barely own any pink, I like purple and yellow

2- I hate to clean and only do it if I have to. I'm only adamant about a clean kitchen because I have to cook in it.

3- I know just as many guys who like sneakers. Shoes are just another way to feel pretty. I don't have the best looking feet, and pedicures make me feel like my feet aren't so nasty.

4- I prefer to read biographies about musicians and actors of old hollywood or from the 70's and 80's. I hate romance novels.

5- I like baseball, but I also like family guy, I have other non chick shows I watch but also shows about wearing the appropriate clothing for your age and body type- I like getting ideas.

6- everyone gossips. I like hearing about what everyone is up to, talking about whos doing what, etc but it isn't the bulk of what I talk about. I talk about work, who I'm dating, etc.

7- most of the movies I like are not sappy flicks. My favorite movies are much more like Truman Show.

8-Ive been drinking Diet Coke for a long time, its just always been in the house. I eat light anyways. As far as beer and alcohol goes, I like wine, and beers- I dig microbrews. Drinks, I like gin and tonic.

9-its not organic food I like, its healthy food because I want to stay in shape and stay healthy and McDonalds just isn't condusive. That doesn't mean I don't love steaks, french fries, burgers and greasy food, I just don't eat it all the time because its hard to be healthy and do that.

11. I do love to text, but webcam is meh, and photos of myself only when I feel like it. I don't plan out my photoshoots.

13. Those things to do for myself, are first, for myself. I will never put someone elses interests before myself. If a dude likes redheads, and I don't want to be one, I won't dye my hair red. I do somethingg first because I want to do it. If someone likes it, great, if not, I don't care.

The Color Pink: okay so I'm am not a fan of pink at all. My favorite color is purple, blue, and black!

nasty slob and I just felt super depressed and hated being in my home. now that things are clean I feel a lot better like the aura in my house is better. have you ever played The Sims? well I used to play it and if you did remember how when their house was really dirty the aura points in the room would go down and that little diamond above their head wouldn't be green anymore? that's how I feel in a dirty environment. you can't tell me you don't notice the difference between clean and spotless and dirty!

Fruity drinks: Everybody likes fruity drinks. Sugar tastes the same to both men and women. This is ANOTHER gender identity at work except it applies more to men. Guys too like fruity drinks, its just 'not manly' to drink a wine cooler instead of a beer. You put a baby in front of both they will equally play with the barbies and trucks until someone steps in and says, 'no no. barbies are for girls.' From then on out they will choose to play with barbies instead because its 'who they are.' Same goes for anything shiny, glittery, etc.

Snacks: studies show that women tend to snack more than men and researchers hypothesize that we evolved these eating patterns from our ancestors. Women were the gathers so they were more likely to 'graze' all day (i.e. snack) and men were the hunters so they were more likely to eat only after a big kill (i.e. meal times).

Lmao I'm one of those girls who doesn't care about most of those things. =P A few things I want to comment on:

Cleanliness: I'm not organized or obsessive at all. Things don't need to be scented, but they can't smell bad.

Shoes: I love shoes, lol. I don't give a s.hit about other people's feet though.

Hate pink and have NEVER owned pink clothes. Hearts are irritating and I have no tattoos.
I'd feel more comfortable having people over if I were into cleanliness. My kitchen and bathroom have to be clean, but the rest of the house is often cluttered and I usually have dirt or oil under my nails.

pink - I know loads of girls like this although personally I prefer light blue. I think it's something to do with the brightness and the way we are brought up, a lot of little girls are automatically given pink toys which makes us link the color with fun when we're older.

cleanliness - generally makes things look nice, and with all the media pressure to be perfect that's really important to women.

shoes / feet - shoes are pretty and we like to have nice ones, as they can make us feel better about ourselves. I think most women don't like their own feet, I know me and my friends don't at least although I'm not sure why, and other peoples we often aren't too keen on which could be because of how much we use them / smell / weird appearance and blisters etc. I don't really know.

trashy romance novels - they're a bit like a more grown up version of fairy tales, always end happily and love always works out. I guess they just make us believe in love again :)

TV - I find a lot of sport pretty boring although I enjoy watching rugby and horse riding somtimes. I prefer other programs because they can usually make me giggle or relate to my life in some way.

gossip - it's been scientifically proven that this is a great way for women to bond, which I think is right actually. so I guess you could say this one is natural.

sappy flicks - crying can be great! it leaves us all refreshed :) also.. like the trashy novels, they quite often help us believe in love again.

texting etc. - it's a great way to keep in touch with people, helps us look after our social lives and is an easy way to talk - which most of us love doing!

Pink: I'm studying earlychildhood education. I once read a theory that girls instictly draw flowers and are attracted to certain colours as a byproduct of our history as the "gatherers." I think it is also drummed into us. My teacher for "anti -bias" said that it is really hard to find girls clothes that are not pink purple or white... Girls also start copying each others likes at an earlier age too. so when they see each other wearing certain colours will say that that's their favorite colour.

Cleanliness: "Nestiness?" I don't know I'm a slob personally

Shoes/ feet: I don't know . My feet are pretty sensitive but I don't really care about shoes etc... As for the photos... If you spent as much as girls do one shoes you would be wanting to get as much publicity on them as possible...

7. As far as gossip goes I hardly know anybody who does it. I do it sometimes out of curiosity but I know just as many gossiping guys as girls.

8. I don't like movies that make me cry I like movies that make me think. My favorite movie is "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless mind". I love comedies and serious movies with plot twists or interesting views on human psychology. I like movies that you have to watch more than once to get. Most girls I know like action movies, romance being the least popular.

9. Not even women, but men, all go in and always get diet drinks because for some reason they think it will make them thin. Most everyone I know though drinks water.

10. No one I really know gets organic food at all. Most people I know are just getting what ever is the cheapest/ won't make them feel sh*tty for eating later.

11. I don't like the way alcohol tastes in general, so I need it to be disguised to taste good. However, I do know quite a few girls who can drink vodka like water.

Shoes/feet: With the pedicure obsession, it's probably part of the cleanliness thing since nice, polished, trimmed toenails are probably a lot neater and cleaner than rough, yellowing, hairy feet and toenails. These tattoos: I agree with you on that. I think tattoos should be original.

Certain snacks: Starbucks is awesome! I hate gummy candies, the only thing gummy I like is my gummy multivitamin I take in the morning.

Themselves: I LOVE finding out about the other person, I kinda feel uncomfortable talking about myself, I'd feel selfish.

1. I hate pink

2. I'm a slob. I don't organize anything, I don't dust anything. I don't spray my bedsheets. They smell like clean laundry

3. Feet are not cute. I hate all feet. I don't take pictures of me and my friends feet in a circle.. That's weird as f***. But I DO love myself some fabulous shoes.

4. I hate romance novels. They're terrible and I would rather poke my eyeballs out with a fork then read those.

5. I don't like reality shows. I like good movies, good TV shows with substance, and ESPN. And Twilight can suck a chode.

6. I hate gossip and I don't gossip. Most of my friends are guys and that's not somethinggg that we partake in.

7. I'm not a fan of sappy movies at all. I like action, thrillers, comedies, and mind-bending kind of sh*t.

8. Diet coke is gross and cigarettes are gross too. I don't drink soda anyway (unless it's a rum n' coke) and I don't smoke either.

9. What's wrong with organic foods? I want to eat healthy foods without all those pesticides and chemicals that non-organic food contains. It's not an obsession, it's a choice to be healthy.

10. Funny, cause I don't like one of those drinks that you mentioned. They are way too fruity for my liking. Yeah, I'll have myself an occasional long island or a vodka cranberry, but that's about as fruity as I get. I like my beer and shots.

11. I hate webcaming, I'm not a big fan of texting unless I have to. I takes me forever to text people back or I just don't feel like replying to them. And I don't have many photos of myself on Facebook either. The only pictures of me are the ones that people tagged me in.

12. I don't like any of those cars except the Scion Tc. I'm all about cars like the M3, Lambos, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Aston Martin, Carrera GT3, etc... just cars of that sort.

13. I don't have press-on nails or highlights but, I do love my jewelry, and I have mass quantities of then. I don't try to impress anyone with my jewelery either. I like it, so I wear it and I don't care what anyone thinks about it.

14. The only thing I like shiny is my jewelery. But come on... you can't have gross, dull jewelery... it doesn't look nice. I don't like glitter either

15. I don't have any stuffed animals, and I love all animals! Small or big. I like Yorkies, and then I like English Mastiff's. But I'm not a fan of cats... I would never want to have one.

16. Those tattoos are ugly and so unorginal.

17. Everyone likes snacks! Dude, it's not just a girl thing. My best guy friend is obsessed with sour patch kids.

18. I like talkingg about everything. Sports, politics, the environment, technology, global issues, pet adoptions, books, movies. I'm well-rounded in a million topics and can talk about anything.

This is probably the worst generalization about women. Ever.
