Why would this girl ask me why I switched gyms when she did too?

We used to work out together until this guy came around. Long story short i liked him until he started bulling and harrassung me so I switched gym. 5 years later literally I see the same girl at the new gym I go to and she's all asking me why I switched gyms. The girl and the guy are friends.

Well, why wouldn’t she ask? Unless you just didn’t mention it, then it sounds like you two were friends and then you just disappeared without a word. If I were her I’d be confused too if my gym buddy not only switched gyms but with no explanation and clearly not caring much about our friendship if she couldn’t even say goodbye and we lose contact for 5 years. Maybe in your opinion she should already know why, but people aren’t mind readers. Maybe she genuinely didn’t recognize that this guy was making you uncomfortable, especially if you never called him out, or told her (if this is even the case of course).

So to answer you you I feel you are right. However we both stopped working out together for a while.. it was at least a year I started working out by myself and then I left.

I think maybe it’s some miscommunication happening. I mean if I were her and saw you start working out alone (I’m guessing because that guy was around), then personally I’d approach you and ask about it. Then again it’s pretty easy for stuff to fly over people’s heads, or to dismiss things, in which case that’s unfortunate on her end. If you guys decide to resume communication and working out together, you could always mention what your motive was. In hindsight it could seem like it’d be an awkward conversation, but I think it would be good to clear the air. Since for you it’s probably like “are you kidding, how could you not know why I left? You didn’t notice how I distanced myself in the first place?”. But if you guys weren’t close or anything for her to notice oddities in how you’re acting then like I said, she genuinely just may not have noticed.
