Why does this girl copy everything the popular girls do?

There’s this girl, who hangs onto the group of “popular girls” in the year. It’s obvious she’s trying really hard to be friends with them because she sucks up to them and tries to bitch about other people she considers below her. Why does she copy EVERYTHING this one popular girl does or says? She started dressing exactly like her, copying her sayings and even changed her snap username to almost the same thing. Why is she such a copycat?

She wants to be cool and thinks copying someone she thinks is cool is the way to do it. She’s probably insecure in her identity so doesn’t believe she’s good enough as herself, and thinks no one will like her
